more hyper 796 fork options
more options for the hyper 796 forks.
as most of you know the 796 has non adjustable forks so the only way to make adjustments is oil height or oil weight, the old school way.i got my forks to a OK point but wanted more out of them,so i started calling suspension shops to get some help.
after many calls to lots of places i ran across Traxxion Dynamics and they also wanted to know more about the inner working of these forks. i heard that the forks are not re-build-able but wanted pros to confirm that information. Traxxion dynamics offered to take my forks apart free of charge and make a spring kit for the bike, all i had to do was send them my forks and i did just that. not many shops go that extra mile to do things like this anymore and i was very pleased with the offer.
so i sent them my forks and they took them apart as far as they could go without breaking them. what they found out is the left fork leg is peened together and cant be taken apart and also the bottom of that leg is permanently joined together with the fork tube. so basically the forks cant be rebuilt in any way. i wanted to know this even tho i read it already (cant always believe what you read on the INTERNET) so it gave me piece of mind on my options.
now what they did do is make a custom spring for the bike as they said the stock spring was very soft with to much preload on it. the stock spring was linear not progressive as i thought it was. so they put the forks back together with there new spring and a custom spacer and set up the fork oil weight and height to my riding style. now any body that has a 796 can get a spring for your bike so it will have more feel and not so vague as to take away your riding confidence and also give you back front end feed back from the tire so you know whats going on. the spring only cost $60.00 bucks,so thats a cheap fix without having to go the only other option for our bike which is the custom ANDREANI forks which cost $1699.00.
so if anybody doesn't like the ride your getting out of your hyper 796 call up traxxion dynamics and pick up a spring and they can also tell you which oil Weight and height to use to maximize the new spring. this was well worth the effort and money ! Traxxion Dynamics is in my book a top end shop and very professional and knows how to treat a customer and also make them happy.they get a 10 out of 10 from me.

and for those that love pics heres what makes these forks so weird.the right fork has a normal set up with a spring on top but the left fork looks like this on the inside

There's no Ohlins upgrade for the 796 forks.
But the Ohlins fork sold by Andreani with the triple clamps should fit the 796

Sounds like the best alternative. Also heard that a Multi fork will fit (used on ebay is cheaper) but they're still expensive.

From a new Multi 1200 ?
Cause the new Multi non-S got 50mm marzo, so it might fit the 1100 but not the 796.
The Multi S, I cant remember the diameter, but is fully electronically adjusted, so you would need the dedicated ECU.

Not entirely sure, but it popped up on a thread here at one time when I was looking into it awhile ago. Of course you also look the ability to use the Hyper front hugger as well if could find the exact Multi fork that works.

Traxxion is less than 50 miles from me and I had called them several months ago about the Ohlins internals for our HM 796. At that time the guy told me it could be done for $1100.00 but big props to EL Tardo for finding out for sure it can't be done. I remember reading here a long time ago about someone who said the same thing about our forks can't be taken apart. Now we all know it's true.
We need to find out from the Multistrada forum the "free length" of the standard Ohlins Multi folks....and the tube diameter. Maybe these can be made to fit our 796's.

one other route is get hyper 1100 trees upper and lower and then some used 1100 forks and your fine, but it hard to find used 1100 forks for a good deal.

Can someone who has used this fix tell me what exact spec you used for for the spring, oil and spacer? And maybe where to buy them?
I am interested.
