Bike won't start

I have a '10 Evo SP, rode last Thurs, hopped on it Sat and battery dead. New battery from 1 month ago. Charged the battery up last night, was reading 11.9V when the green fully charged light came on, put it in the bike and wouldn't crank. The electrics came on fine, battery read 11.9V, just a humming sound from the battery area when I pressed the starter...any ideas? Nearest person who works on these is 3hrs away, so taking it in is out of the question for another few weeks.

I would personally check you cables for tightness and did you clean

them and the battery posts before installing.

a new fully charged battery should have close to 13 volts.

11.9 isn't even close to being a full charge on a 12v battery as was pointed out. In fact there's some sort of low voltage cutoff electronics that won't even allow he bike to crank below a certain voltage. Full batt should be closer to 14.4 (?) at peak charge in think. Certainly in the 13+ area. On the way home at a light today mine was 13.8.

When buying a new battery......make sure it is charged 100% before using.

SP wouldn't start, then would, then wouldn't... It was the key, then it wasn't.

Check this out...sounds similar to my 2011 evo sp with a similar sounding phenom...check the collar that surrounds your ignition switch which houses your immobilizer.

Thanks for the suggestions! I think my GPS tracker is draining the batteries, so I'm going to disconnect it once I get the new battery next week. I'll also try inserting the key with the tang forward, and try my spare as well. I still don't know why the charger was showing the battery completely charged after a full night of charging and then the battery only read 11.9V? Maybe being run down by the GPS tracker killed the battery's ability to hold a full charge?

Totally possible. Once you run down a battery too low too many times the first symptom of a dead battery is that it won't take a full charge. I think the plates get all sulphated and that process is almost impossible to reverse (although plenty of companies will sell you a product that claims to reverse it).
