Hyper Factory Mirror issue and new rider suspention question
Hey guys,
Finished the basic rider course in Maryland a month or two ago and went and got myself a New 2010 Hyper 796 and freaking love it.
So I got my bike from a dealer in PA and got it home and started riding and realized the turnsignal/mirror bracket is way loose on the left and slightly loose on the right. The one on the left dips down enough so that the clutch rubs the bracket which is bad, and the mirror is useless because i can't keep it adjusted correctly.
I took it to my local shop and they said they set it up too loose from the factory because the allen screws are as tight as they will go at the end of the handle bars. They said they will have to pull the handle bars apart and possibly add some shims or something to tighten them up. You guys ever heard of this???
Also, being a totally new rider weighing in at just 155lbs I'm wondering if the suspension is setup appropriately for my weight out of the factory. It may just be my inexperience but sometimes I get this weird sensation that the rear tire may be coming loose as I'm leaning into straightening up from a turn or something like that. It's probably just me but I was wondering if you had any input.

You can tighten the bolts as tight as you can even with shims, because the thing that keeps them from spinning are two plastic tabs on the assembly that will eventually break, and notches in the handlebar. Useless part of the bike. Lots of options for mods, so I got rid of mine early on......good luck.

Yep, there was a post recently about build quality or something that had a pic of the tabs that wear out and cause them to sag. Really weak design in that sense.

You should be better off than most with a stock setup. For guys like me who are around 200lbs we've got a lot of work to do to mess with the suspension. I think that feeling you're referring to is the odd "wallowing" the rear end will do. The front will do it as well and it's a bit disconcerting. Guys with much more experience than me will probably have an actual explanation of it, but I think it's pretty normal. Still, take a look at bolts, tires, etc. to make sure all is safe!

Hrmm thanks fellas, If I ever get it to the shop I'll try and take a look at the cheap plastic pieces and maybe I could rig up a metal one or something.
What exactly would I be modding though to remedy this situation? Something in the grip or the whole turn signal?

I think I can contribute a bit here. I had my right hand guard notches Brocken at very first day. The screw could not tightened further. The left side started loosing just last week. I fixed them with no cost. Here is my fix.
Just cut a small strip of rubber (I got from my wasted furniture bottom rubber which prevented from scratching timber floor). Put it between the handle bar end and the hand guard socket acting as a washer. You have to stick it to the bottom of the socket that is normally seperated into two half circles by the two notches. when the screw tightened, the rubber is squeezed and adds more friction which is enough to hold the hand guard in place.

On mine the clamps on the bar wouldn't tighten up. I took the allen bolts out and noticed the plastic on the cap extended past the brass inserts. I laid some fine sand paper on the bench and ran the caps over it in a figure 8 pattern. Now they fit nice and tight on the handle bar. Note, this doesn't address the plastic tab issue but without the clamp being loose I think the tabs will last longer.
