Monster 796 more HP and Torque than Hyper 796 ?
Why does the Monster 796 have more HP's and Torque than the Hyper 796 ?
I thought they have identical engines:
M796: 87 hp @ 8250 rpm, 57.9 lb-ft @ 6250 rpm
HM796: 81 hp @ 8000 rpm, 55.7 lb-ft @ 6250 rpm
Am I missing something?

I rode a monster and a hyper 796 for aprox. 500kms back to back with a friend, We both found the hyper the stronger and faster bike. wouldnt trade any of them for my hyper1100 .........

Yeah thats what the dealer told me as well when I went to look at the monster last year.
They said the hyper feels stronger and faster.

The airbox on our Hypers is too small. The Monster is way larger. Also the Monster has a better exhaust system than our Hyper. I never heard the cams were different. I would think a Monster 796 would be faster and am suprised to hear from members that the Hyper feels stronger and is faster. Maybe somebosy will dyno a Monster. Our 796 Hyper puts out 71 hp stock to the rear wheel.

When we rode both bikes they were brand new , hyper had 3km on it and the monster 10km. My friend owns a monster S4RS and I have the hyper1100 so we were not favoring one bike over the other
We both agreed the hyper feld stronger and faster.(other friends I know of had the same experience)
For fun we did several accelleration test in the differrent gears and each time the hyper pulled away from the monster. We did no topspeed tests.
If the engine is the same than the only thing that would help the hyper is gearing or weight?
Both were missing in suspension area IMHO.
We also were not very fond of the clutch on the bikes, no feel in it(maybe we are spoiled by the dry clutch on our own bikes
Btw both were euro bikes....

The monster has a better air box for sure, it also has 2 less teeth on the rear so the hyper will have a stronger bottom end and less top end.

I spoke with my local dealer. They said the difference is in the airbox+exhaust.
The engines are otherwise identical and so are the dry weights. Next time I'm there, I'll compare the chain sprockets out of curiosity.
