Reflashed Stock ECU and Power Commander?

Hey All,

I recently got a stock ECU reflashed by Motowheels and after I got it back I had my local shop install the newly reflashed ECU onto my bike, reset the TPS, and had it tuned. My system is a DP air filter lid, k&n filter, leo cat elim, and leo undertail exhaust. My mechanic told me that the new ECU was the same map as the Ducati Performance ECU and is pretty rich so he leaned it out and after riding it home, I notice that my bike is back firing quite a bit when I decelerate on 2 or 3rd gear and then cruising around 20mph around town.

Talked to the shop and they had me take my vacuum rubber caps off my throttle bodies where I disconnected the evap canister, and connect it with a straight hose from one connector to the other to see if that helps, no go. Next he had me install some fresh spark plugs since I had a fatduc on my bike before and it might have fouled up my older set of plugs, no go. I even tried using some copper sealant spray on the exhaust just in case there was leaks, no go.

After all that, I just took the bike back in today to get it retuned again tomorrow and to just confirm with them that this backfiring is normal and I'm not being overly sensitive to it. I know some decel poping is ok, but my bike would just make some loud "bangs" while I'm lane sharing scaring the $hit out of drivers.

So my questions is, would a Power Commander V work with a reflashed stock ECU? If I cant get this resolved with the shop, I might go the PCV route and get an auto tune also. Also I have my o2 sensor removed on my ECU so will the autotune still work?

THANKS!!

Well I'm no expert, however I have been doing a bunch of reading on the PC V install as I have it sitting on the table in front of me right now.

If your reflashed ECU is now the same "flash"/spec as the DP full race ECU Dynojet has factory maps that are close to your set-up. I was considering the autotune, however you need a good base map for your set-up first, then the autotune customizes the fuel tables.

Yes Autotune will work, comes with it's own O2 sensor(s), 2 if you get the dual channel one to map each cylinder.

But I'd say your best bet would be get the PC V and have your shop, if capable, or another tuner do a custom dyno tune.

I'm sure the autotune works great, awesome solution for people with no tuners available. My concern is if you don't start with a perfect match base map for your mods the autotune will always be a bit "off" compared to a custom dyno tune.

Just my $0.02 from my recent research, I'm sure you'll get some more experienced / expert answers. P.S.: I got a smoking deal on Ebay, but the best $$ I found was at indysuperbikes.com

tkl999,
Give me a call on Tuesday. I can try a different map on your ECU.

Zoetard - Thanks for the reply. I didnt know that you should have a custom map made first for the baseline. I figured one of the maps on their site would be a good starting point and the autotune will fine tune using that map. But I guess the better the baseline, the less the autotune needs to fine tune. Is there a limitation on how far the autotune will adjust the map? Say you have a map that is really far off base. We definitely have a place I can dyno my bike in San Francisco. I was also just thinking ahead in case I plan on changing out my exhaust again later.

Matt - I'll give you a ring on Tuesday about the ECU.
