Heat wrap on exhaust?

Just heat-wrapped my exhaust like I did on my last bike, a 14...went for a quick ride and aside from the normal burning-in smell didn't notice any changes in performance. As I'm doing this mainly for aesthetics, just wanted to make sure this air-cooled engine isn't adversely affected by hotter exhaust temps. Any thoughts? This is my first experience with a Ducati coming off Hondas and Kawis.

The engine temp will be hotter with wrap. If exhaust wrap worked well...then all the bike manufatureres would have installed it on every bike. All you really acomplished is to keep some heat off your legs.

where the hell do you get your info? your totally wrong! heat wrap works well to keep things cool but it does have draw backs. it makes steel rust no matter what, get dirt with road grime and doesn't always look good.

so are you just guessing again? use goggle for some tech info on header wrap

wrapped headers also requires more maintenance that the general public would not be happy to pay for, so it is just easier (and cheaper for them and us) to just have heat shields.

+1 LOL

Heat wraps or coatings, helps keep heat in the pipe where it belongs, with hotter "air" in the exhaust its thinner and easier for the motor to push out the exhaust gas faster, and possibly gain a little bit of power. Aloha Alex

I put it on because I love the look of it and I was melting my boots and occasionally burning myself on the headers. I did the wrap in combination with the vstacks, and light flywheel. Who knows if they offer performance gains. I imagine if they did, you'd see wrap on WSBK bikes and GP bikes.

Here is mine... I used DEI 1 inch titanium wrap (I would try 2" next time)

It makes a hell of a lot more sense for cars in an engine bay when conditions are extreme - you keep a little more heat in the headers and exhaust and the intake area cooler. But even then the benefit is marginal. The ability of heat wrap fabric to make a difference for the kinds of temperatures an exhaust sees - just think about it.

For bikes like the hyper, with the huge local air flows at the headers... It doesn't make sense at all.

Not necessarily true as the keeping the exhaust hot helps evacuate it quicker. So in the case of the Hyper with all of that "huge local air flow at the headers" cooling the exhaust temps, you might actually see some gains in power.

You are correct in one way though, the heat shield way, in comparison to a car or a bike with bodywork.
