Setting sag....solo

Rear:
1. Tapered a piece of tubing to fit in the rear axle hole
2. Welded a piece of flat bar to the tubing
3. Taped the measuring tape to the flat bar and folded it over the top.
4. Put a piece of tape on the exhaust to record position before I mount the bike. marked measuring tape with a sharpie.
4. Setup tripod and used iphone 4 to record video.

Front:
1. Taped ruler to the upper outer fork tube
2. Taped a second ruler perpendicular to it on lower fork leg casting.
3. Setup tripod and used iphone 4 to record video.

NOTES:
I have a pneumatic motorcycle lift with a front wheel clamp
I have a moto mfg paddock stand which lift front and rear wheels in the air at the same time to get static sag reading.

As Aesop might say: Necessity is the mother of all inventions.

Alex, apparently we have a mutual friend...Ben at PI. I rode with him up to the GP. He was on his FJ1300 with wife in tow. He rode the wheels off that thing!

How do you like the Motomfg stand? It sure would make getting the unloaded numbers easy!

I have all of their Hyper tools and they are well made.

Yes your right, Ben (mental999) is a excellent rider, he's one of my track buddies, & if you think he can ride that FJ1300, you should see him ride his Hyper! one of the best riders that I know. Another thing about Ben is how he takes care of his bikes, they look better than the day they came off the showroom floor, for me thats really odd.... Aloha Alex

The moto mfg paddock stand is the most useful stand I've ever used. Here's my .02

The good:
easy to use
front end work: remove wheel, forks, triple clamps hassle free
cleaning wheels never easier
1 stand does it all

The bad:
stock rearsets must be retained. It will not work with aftermarkets
frame has a bushing needed for stand use sticking out the frame at all times
Swingarm cannot be removed while using stand.

Note: I spent the money for the castor wheel kit, but have not needed them at all. The stand will fit on my lift, but not with the wheels. Not a problem as I wouldn't want it to possibly roll off my lift while in the air. The castors will be useful to those who don't have a lift and work on the ground.

Thank God he was on that FJ. We had a group of 9 guys and this was the first ride through twisties on my Hyper. If he was on anything other than that FJ, I would seen only until the first turn. I think he was taking mercy on us all.

I must say that after breathing, eating, pooping and sleeping- cleanliness of my bikes are probably my number one priority too.

veerossi46;
Thanks! Good to know about the swingarm. That was one use I had in mind. I'm used to just throwing my CFR450 on the stand and pulling he swingarm off to grease everyhing. That job is a challenge with the Hyper.
