2010 HM 796 Check Engine Light

I have a 2010 796 that I bouhgt new about a month ago. The check engine light comes on occaisionally and I'm looking for some advice.

I first noticed the check engine light come on at about 400 miles. The next day it cleared itself. I put some Leo Vince slip-ons a few days later and the light came on again. I brought the bike down to the dealer and they read a lean front cylinder code and told me it was because of the slip-ons. I told them that it came on before installing the exhaust but they said unless I put it back to stock and bring it in again with the code, there was nothing they could do. I asked what I need to do keep the light from returning and the tech said I had to install the DP Ecu for $1,200 and have them tune it. He also mentioned the air bleed screws but recommended that I don't touch them.

Fast forward to 1,200 miles later and I have narrowed down the check engine light to only coming on after long downhill stretches of mountain passes when I am rolling off of the throttle a lot. I get a fair amount of decel popping and did with the stock pipes too. The check engine light is usually gone the next day and stays off unless I ride it over mountain passes again. The bike seems to run the same regardless of whether the check engine light is on or not.

I live at 9,600 feet above sea level and the lowest elevation I usually ride at is 5,200 feet in Denver. If anything, I thought I would be running a little rich at altitude.

Any recommendations? Does messing with the air bleed screws void the warranty? Should I just bite the bullet and get the Bazzaz or PCV? Do these controllers void the Ducati warranty? Last thing, just ingnore the check engine light or is it indicating something that could seriously harm my engine?

Thanks for any suggestions!

Had the same problem on mine.

HERE

Check the small hoses I mention in this thread.
HERE

Since I have replaced these hoses I have not had one check engine light.

I checked the vacuum line hoses and they look good. Thanks for the suggestion. Do you have any other ideas? Who is your dealer?

It shouldn't take $1200 to fix this. Check to see if people like Motowheels can reflash the Siemans ECU. And no, it shouldn't take hours on a dyno fine tuning things to get it right.

Maybe from constant decel dn hill, unspend fuel is fouling your 02 sensors.
Dont have any mountains here but I had a very similar problem with an FJR whenever I would run too long a low RPM. A good high rev run cleaned it out.

Also I believe the Duc has an altitude sensor that would have leaned you out at high alt and maybe it didnt adapt quick enough going dn.

I am almost certain check engine light problem is fixed now. The solution: remove the charcoal canister. I can only guess that the evap system must have had a small vacuum leak in the canister or one of the hoses. I rode the bike almost 1,000 miles since over varying terrain and lots of mountain passes and the check engine light has not come on again.
