$925 for a new clutch pack, housing, and springs?!?!
My dealer just called (my Hyper is in for its 7,500 mile service), and they informed me that my clutch plates are worn and there are notches in the housing (basket?) and it should all be replaced. $925 with one hour of labor. I told them to put the clutch back in the bike and I'll deal with it myself. The service is already costing $700 in labor, and I don't know how much they are going to charge me for the oil/belts/fluids.
The clutch has been making the Chewbacca noise during take-off, and I assumed cleaning it out would address that. I've been digging through old threads. Am I correct in surmising that it should cost less than $400 to get a Barnett pack and basket? Any suggestions for a source?
It really seems like Ducati wants ownership to be painful... Meh, I guess I'm just in a whiny mood.

Hello Rob,
some people have had good results with putting copper paste on their clutches to prevent them from squealing.
It seems that your clutch has worn quite a bit already, so it might be a good idea to inspect the notches in the clutch basket and measure the plate pack thickness as soon as you tear it apart. You can file down the notches a few times if you want to stretch the period before getting a replacement basket. A proper clutch pack setup with the right pack thickness will make your clutch work well again.
Keep in mind that new parts are just that, new. Hence they will perform better, but in my opinion there´s nothing wrong with trying to get a few more miles out of your existing clutch pack.

I recently picked up a Barnett Clutch Pack on eBay... and the same company sells springs, screws and caps, also Barnett. Even if the listing doesn't mention the Hyper, the dry clutch 12T pack for a 1098 will wurk. You can get all that for around $200. Once You get that handled, You should also order a DP Convex Plate, those run for $18, and the dealership (in Your case Stealership) usually has them in stock. A new basket shouldn't cost that much either... Once again, eBay has steals. You were right not to let the dealer charge 9hund0 for this job... Redonkulous.

You can get a Barnett clutch basket for less than $250 on ebay, it should have stainless steel inserts to protect the basket tabs, I have aprox 10,000 mi on the basket now, & NO dents in it. A Barnett clutch pack for the Hyper is less than $200 also. Aloha Alex
PS: lightly sand down the friction plates to break the glaze, (240 grit) & file down the "dents" to smooth them out, NOT to remove them, & replace a metal plate with a thicker one if yout stack height is too low, you can order them through Barnett also, and run it untill the clutch is completly gone.

Ducati Parts by Desmo Times - The Home of DIY Ducati Maintenance. is a good source for clutch parts too. I use their spyder retainer instead of spring retainers. I also have LT Snyder's desmodue maintenance manual from them.
Slingshot racing makes nice stuff and I've noticed their basket prices are good. I use one of their flywheels. They can be found on ebay.

I'd tell them to go pound sand. I have 53k miles on my original clutch in my ST2 and 24k on my original 748 clutch. The ST2 is getting really badly worn tabs that are ecessive and it makes a lot of noise, but neither clutch slips and both still appear to be functioning perfectly. I actually have a complete clutch assembly sitting on my workbench for the ST2. I bought it about 20k miles ago but still haven't swapped it out. I figure if it isn't giving me problems, why change it?
