Streetfighter or 848 forks in HM 796?
Has anyone swapped their forks on a 796? I believe the 848 and Streetfighter both use a 43mm fork as well, anyone have info on length? I assume it to be longer, but am curious if they would still clear the bars. can the HM triple clamp be bored/shimmed to use? axle? rotor? caliper? etc?
Worth all the pain?
Thanks for any info!
Cheers,
Brian

Brian...i did tons of investigation about the 796 forks. First the 848 forks are and inch and a half too short. Even if the Streetfighter forks fit the clamps...they still have junk internals. No matter what BETTER forks you try to swap....none of them have the same front fender mount like the 796 does.
The only real soulution is to get the Traxxion Dynamics AK20 cartridges for the 796 forks. They have adjustable preload for the springs...compression damping adjust at the top on one side...and rebound damping adjust on the other side....and everything still fits. They cost $1100 and i'm buying a set in a month or so after my exhaust arrives.
The only other alternatives are used Mulistrada S forks...$1400 on E-Bay...and Ohlins track forks....$2400.00 new.

Ah, Multistrada S forks. Interesting idea. Any issues you've heard of with this concept during your research?

what about racetech's cartridge kit? I like their idea because you can swap it to a new bike with a mount kit meant for the new bike.

the 848 forks will fit just fine, i had a chance to mount them but needed the cash for other things.they are longer then 796 forks.the fender and every thing mounts up fine, the only thing with 848 forks is you have to run the 848 320mm brake disc's as the radial mounts are set up for them.
if you look up the 796 race thread you will see the guy here that did the mount already.
and as far as other options lots of company's will do kits but all of them cost about 1200 bucks as i called the top three. another Italian company makes the best drop in complete forks but they cost even more.
i never checked into the street fighter forks as i thought it was larger then 43mm.
but yes the 848 forks fit right into to place

Thanks.
Is there no way to run some form of a spacer, shim etc to fit the HM rotor? What is the difference between the HM796 and M696 forks? There seems to be lots of info on the m696 swap with 848 forks...

no cant do a spacer as the 848 forks are made for 320mm rotors and the 796 is 305mm rotors, you would have to cut them down. anyways the 320mm rotors will give you better braking and lever feel. its in my plans to do.you can even just mount the 320mm rotors to the hyper rim and add 7.5mm spacers to mount the radial calpers to run larger rotors.
i can say the stock 796 forks are not that bad,you need to change out the rear shock for the 1100 one first and add the 1100s ride height adjuster first and it will make you bike handle 10 times better.

The 848 forks are an inch and half SHORTER than the 796 forks. I measured the free length myself. Yes they fit the clamps....but they are SHORT.
It could be that different year 848 forks are longer...but that doesn't seem logical that Ducati would change the fork free length that much.

i had them in my hand and they are longer,i also measured them to make sure it would all fit up and not hit the bars, they came off a 2008 848. i parted out the bike and was going to keep them but needed the cash and also a forum member has them on his 796 hyper with pics here,so i don't know what forks you had??
