My new HYM796
I've had my HYM796 for exactly one week now. In the past few days I've started to look over the bike with a critical eye.
With 3 miles on it (dealer), I've been analyzing the build quality of this bike and I am a little bit disappointed.
Electric cables not secure, one was laying between the belt cover and the top frame tube which it appeared that it should be clipped to a tab
that is welded to the underside of that part of the frame. The wiring for the horn was hanging out in space close to the steering stop tab (left side).
The braided oil cooling lines were pointing down 45 degrees from horizontal and the one collar was not tight, I could easily move
the line with my hand. It seems as those should be tucked up toward the starter more than hanging down like that.
Removing the seat to inspect the battery etc, I found two of the seat frame bumpers missing, everything else there looked good.
I began to check critical fasteners, then others. When I got to the hand guards I noticed the right side was a little loose to the bar end. When I checked the bolt it was tight,
but the fitment still seemed loose. I disassembled the hand guard and found that there are two tabs broken off that are molded into the bracket that fits into the bar end.
There was one other screw that was not tight for the top left side fork guard.
Those tabs should be bigger, but a nice radius may have helped the strength of the tabs. I disassembled the right side and those tabs are cracked but still intact.
Would Ducati replace that damaged part? Its clearly a poor design not following common design practices with regards to sharp corners and stress areas.
The big packet of catalogs that it came with are for 2009, and there is nothing in there for the 796, just the 1100. I know there are some common items, but which ones?
I know much of this is easily remedied, though this being my first Ducati, is this typical with design and build quality for this brand?
Have you had similar issues?
Kind of an unwelcome kit . . .

Your Dealers prep sucks. (techs)
Your dealers salesman sucks. (should have inspected bike before you got it)
Sounds like a leftover they threw together.
Couldnt even give you the right paperwork ??
Better check your tittle/Reg
Shamefull
Let forum members know where NOT to buy a Duc

Mr. Mike,
In the event this is an isolated incident or . . . not. I searched the dealer on here, key words etc, and there are some unfavorable mentions of the dealer in question.
I want to give them an opportunity to make the corrections before I slam their fingers in the door, if it ever gets to that.

I agree 100%. They should be given the oportunity to correct things.
I had a good dealer experience and My bike had none of the problems you have.
I did however develope an oil leaking cylinder head stud Dealer fixed it right. 4500mi later and no issues
Good luck. I hope you get to enjoy your Duc.

welcome to the ownership of a Italian bike, i had three different brands and so far ducati beats aprilia and husky, lol. and as far as the tabs your right they suck and all of them will break. i bumped one of mine with my body and broke those little plastics tabs off. IMO the hand guards are the only crappy part of this bike. but i can tell you Italians don't believe in quality control, but i can live with it!!

Yep, I have the cylinder head stud leak as well. Seems pretty common. I guess this handguard explains why my right handguard flops around like that. May get both fixed during the winter.

Look for oil leaking on your bike. Most commonly the horizontal cylinder, or it could be both. Mine happened a year ago, right when they were figuring this out, and everyone in Italy was on vacation for August.

Mine was right front lower bolt but others have had different experiences: Cyliner bolt oil leak
Just a drip really and have probably put on 1500 miles since it started (although I do keep a close watch on it.) You'll tend to see it be clean where it's leaking and can see the slight drip and oil sheen to it but the area around it will attract a lot of crud.
Oh, and just looked over the bike again and apparently the left rear one is leaking a little too. Ah, Italian quality control.

I must say, having owned the 1100 hyper and 1100s Multi for about 15,000km between them, quality on both the 1100s was easy 80% better than my 796, all just little things, but oil seepage from many points; minor flaws in paint and plastics finish, paint quality I think is less, seems to chip real easily, or i've been unlucky this time around with chips?
But, I'm fitting a new set of michellins tomorrow and just had some fantastic motorex oil +filter change, now i have a butter-smooth gearbox with a most easily found neutral...more likely with 5500km its loosening up too, but sh*t it likes to rev!!! the performance and ride appeal certainly make the production flaws minor....but, still i was/am a little disappointed.
