Anyone convert to Ram Air systems?
Ive herd over on some euro boards that someone has converted to a ram air system simply by attaching and routing SBK runners into the stock air box.
My question is: has anyone here herd of doing that? and does the general Principal work (in therroy and or in use)

Ram air only works effectively at speeds of 90mph or more. Ram air pressurizes the air box...which also mean the air box needs to be designed that way to begin with.

In 1997 the TL1000s came out and they ran it on the dyno with no ram air and then with a 70mph ram air. it gained serous numbers. (I seam to remember +30hp)
and as for the pressurized air box, it should take an IQ of about 30 to put on some sbk runners and seal the oem opening.
Anyone want to send me some stock SBK runners to let everyone here knows how it works and more important how well it works.
Thanks
to the SBK runner doner (in advance)

Sorry if I seem like a bit of an ass in my response, but why ask the question and then come back and tell the person who answered that he's wrong?
I read a report from BMW engineering that they put "ram air" snorkels on their motorcycles to reduce intake noise, and that it actually cost power. My own experience with ram air on race cars was that it gave me consistently slower lap times. As a followup to that, I found that the most power was achieved using a still air box.
30hp gain at 70 mph? I'd love to see that info as I don't believe it.
Good luck with your experiment. By the way, how do you intend to create an accurate 70mph headwind for the bike while on a dyno, or were you just going to ride it and tell us it feels like more horsepower?

IMO the Hyper is fast enough For an air-cooled, non-superbike... It's perfect. I'd be spending Mi money on weight savings if I had enough. Titanium frame and carbon fiber swingarm *drools*

I did not do the test to the TLS. although it came out of a more reputable mag. then most. (i think it might of been MCN or at least I know it was out of a euro publication.)
And as for the first response I got ... I just felt there was better/more in dept response out there.
ps no offense taken and please don't take any from this. But I have done TONS of projects people said wouldn't work or certainty wouldn't improve. and of course that's just not the case.
And further more its ok I wouldn't believe 10% of what people say on thees boards either. ex. you probable wouldn't believe that we had the FIRST carbon rims for motorcycles. (BUT WE DID

If you keep talking....eventually you can convince yourself of anything. Like gaining 30+ hp with ram air on a TL1000.

Right on! The Hyper is foremost a fun, eye-catching hooligans tool. Aftermerket stuff improves sight and sound but if I wanted to get numbers, I'd get a superbike.

That is a older TL.... if you recall the first 300 TLS had a different brain. much more aggressive and over 10hp from what they de tuned it to after those 300.
The removal of the flapper valve in that box is a very known mod.
(easy and super effective)
Ex. I would like to do something like that to mine for a safe hp boost.
Here is some good quick reading
