Hypermotard DP Rearset Fix

I had emailed Claudio the general manager of Ducati about the absents of part numbers for the Hypermotard DP rearsets. I haven't heard anything. And after this weeks lowside my last fix was done (mental note track tires are cheaper then DP parts). So off to the motocross store, to buy an MSR dirtbike shifter. I had looked at these for awhile and thought they would work. the shifter knobs looked very similar.

Why it needs repair

MSR shifter, there were several choices I just got the lowest priced, $25.00

Surprise the MSR knob is riveted on.

A little drill work and it's off.

The DP, and MSR together

All fixed, now I need to look for alternative footpegs.

The MSR is a direct replace. No mods. It's aluminum, and the spring is stronger, and easier to fit.

Thumbs up

Excellent job and I'm sure cheaper than the DP piece if it was/is available. Hopefully the rest of the repairs will do as well. On the track day tires (everyone has their own opinion) but I like the Q2's I have on the Hyper now and I've run Michelins for years! They had nice grip on the track and seem to be holding up fine on the street.

My 900sssp has trackday tires on it, but it jammed in third gear. Unfortunately I live 16 miles from Louden, and could go home and get the Hyper, it had Dunlop D616 on it. I told myself take it easy, but I didn't listen.

I can say the puchase of the race handguards, and axle sliders is well worth it. As would be a set of decent trackday tires.

Back on subject I think that by matching up the MSR shifters with the DP it might be possible to fabricate a replacement for the whole lever, with a minimal effort.

Hammerhead Design makes tips with different offsets - HDmoto.com -Featured Products
That would be useful if they fit as easily as the MSR tips. Also, their business is custom shift and brake levers. They may be interested in making replacements.

I have seen the Hammerhead stuff online, but no one seems to have it in stock for a comparison. I found out today that KTM actually sells the shifter knobs that are the same design, but their $32.00 without the spring or pin, $60.00+ for all 3, or $70.00+ with the shift arm.

I have a friend, and club member who is a machinist. I'm dropping off the DP pegs with him on Saturday. I'll keep you posted on that. In mean time I discovered the pegs from the stock rearsets are a direct replacement. Same pin size and spring. ;D $82.99 ea for the stock pegs from Ducati, a little steep, but you can get them.
