HYM First Service does not make sense?

So the user mannual states 1000km or 6 month, whichever comes first.

So the dealer performed the first service at 6 months with only 50km on the clock.

I then rode it home across Europe and ran it it...+1000km

Surely a 1st service at 6 months with the bike hardly used is pointless.

Now its passed its 1000km I am thinking of have a first service done again, surely this is the right thing to do?

Why would the dealer perform it at 6 months with no kilometres on the bike?

Because they need money...

It surely doesnīt make much sense if the bike hasnīt been ridden. What they do is change the run in oil, retighten belts and perform a bolt check.

As you can see changing the run in oil doesnīt make sense if you havenīt ridden the bike. Neither do the two other things.

If I were you I'd get an oil and filter change.
And in defence of Ducati - it's probably quite unusual that someone buys a brand new HM and only does 50 km in the first 6 months..
Have fun, Stu

Thanks both. Will get it serviced.

It was an ex demo from a dealer, hence only 50km over the 6 months. It just ticked over the 6 month mark whilst sat in the show room and the dealer thought they'd give it a first service?? Odd.

Living in florida , I never let my oil change go beyond 6 months reguardless of miles becaause condensated moisture from hot to cold cycles can combine with combustion byproducts and create a corrosive cocktail in your oil.

Also a demo gets lots of short cycle operation and besides the Ducati recommends it and Warranty can be denied if you don't

Exactly, it's a corrosion concern.
If your bike is being ridden for less than the stated mileage in 6 months, it's not getting up to temperature enough to burn off moisture in the oil.

All good stuff. Makes sense now from the corrosion perspective...though that 6month service at 50km should not be considered a first service (though the dealer logged it as such.

Ill get a second "1st service" now its run in @ 1000km

Thanks for all the info, much apreciated

+1 I live just south of you (Port Saint Lucie) and would never go beyond 6 months for an oil change regardless of total miles on the bike. It's cheap insurance.
