Who said it's not a touring bike?
On my way to Alaska from San Diego now. On a baby tard at that!
Granted, I'm not there yet
On that note, does anyone know any reputable indie shops/mechanics in the Seattle area that could perform a 7,500 mile service?

I have done two trips so far.
4 days 3 nights with pillion. 2000km
3 days 2 nights without pillion. 1300km.
Baby tard is good for long and short ride. Even better if i can settle the luggage issue. Sucks to backpack!

It's a touring bike for masochists.
Tiny seat + tiny gas tank = no "efficiency".
I did about a thousand miles on mine this weekend heading up the Blue Ridge Parkway and squeaked 153 miles out of one tank. Most refills happened around the 120 mile mark.
My butt will be sore for a few days.

Either I've got an iron bum or you guys have a sensitive one, but I find the DP seat on my hyper really comfortable. I also don't mind a ktm 525exc even though it has a narrow seat, could ride on it for hours. My 749 however, that bike used to do all sorts of things to my butt

The luggage question will soon be answered. It has been a long process in the making but soon we will have a suitable luggage alternative.

I'm not from Seattle, but my neighbor will trailer his 1198 up to Seattle Ducati for 99% of all the work he needs done. If you are closer to Portland, then Cheshire Motorsports is a great Indi service shop too...
have a great ride!!
