796 Powercommander PC5 install...first ride

Did the 2 hour PC5 install today on the HM796. It comes with an "optimzer" box also so there are two installs to do.

First thing i noticed was slighly faster warm up which i believe is due to being a little richer now. It also was slower to reach 3 bars which i believe to be the same thing. However i can ride off sooner due to the a/f being much better at lower rpms.

Didn't get a half a block before i noticed the bike was faster than before and required less throttle rotation to get the same speeds i had before the install.

Third..the "chugging" is all but gone. I even tried to lug the engine a bit in higher gears....but couldn't quite do it. I did get some slight hesitation...but it went away real quick each time i tried.

On the Interstate.....i redlined the first 4 gears....and it feels to me like it gained about 3 hp at least. This is my 64th motorcycle...so i know what 3 hp gain feels like. It was WAAAAY faster than before. Also downshifts are cleaner and quicker than before.

I'm running a 14 tooth front sprocket...stock rear...and stock pipes. I was running on the stock exhaust and stock air cleaner map that was supplied with the PC5.

Conclusion...well worth the money. Ducati should have built it like this to start with. I'm a happy camper. I expect the gas mieage to suffer a bit but 59 mpg stock was too good to start with. I expect about 49 to 51 mpg now with the PC5 and optimizer.

Nice. About how much that set you back? Some days feel like I'd pay almost anything to get rid of that surging. It's downright dangerous at times.

I've had the motor straight lock on me before in first gear just taking a right hand turn onto a intersecting street. I was ready for it because I've become accustomed to it's bad habits. I use the clutch now for things that I never had to on my R6.

You would think the R6 that revs to nearly 17,000 RPM would have more low speed issues than a twin. This isn't the case, Japanese bikes IMO are just much better bikes and they put forth the engineering time to make sure EVERYTHING works.

That said, I still love my bike.

The 14 front gets rid of half the surging....and the PC5 gets rid of almost all the rest. It cost $290.00 from INDYSUPERBIKES.COM.....and it's another $188.00 if you get the AUTO TUNE like i did. The AUTOTUNE hasn't been installed yet. I'm waiting on a slip on....and then i'll install it.

Oh I've been there. The second I forget to feather that clutch in those slow right-handers she gets squirrely. Damn thing will really upset that front end too with the weight shifting all over from the bucking if you're pushing it and you forget.

Funniest part is that this is my first bike so I figure if I can deal with this craziness I can ride almost anything; but I still want it to go away, lol.
