Securing the battery

Yesterday I picked up my Hypermotard 1100S '07, early model without the battery mod. I was in for a surprise when it broke down just after 1 block. The battery was moving around freely and metal fatigue on the lead did the rest. The previous owner gave me a rubber tray and a rubber strap.

I installed the rubber tray but it still moves around quite a lot. The strap I have is rubber and I'm not sure if it's for the passenger seat or to hold down the battery. It has a few bolts and stuff supplied with it but I'm not really sure where it should go. Does anyone have any experience with the rubber strap instead of the metal bracket?

1 BLOCK ???

There is a metal bracket . I think the first ones needed an upgrade ...
I useds a foam packing type material (Carpenters call it sill plate gasket) about 1/4 inch thick and cut it to go completely around the battery , Some stones have worked their way up there and have wore a hole into the gas tank causing leaks...
Now you need to do some searches here and possibly download the Hyper Manual and service manual,,,
Or be a nice guy and Purchase it from a dealer for about $60.

I think you might even be able to get the bracket thru warantee...
Get on the good side of a dealer and see if it has had the upgrade by running the serial # it is possible yours is entitled to recieve one...
The metal bracket is a wee bit tricky to put on correctly , but once you do it once it is a snap...
Just look at how it gets correctly installed ....

Now some have purchased thicker battery cables which will crank that sucker up to start really good....

You got a kick ass bike , they DO NEED ATTENTION , it is in your best intrest to get to know the bike and it will be a blast to own and ride...
Might cost you a few $$$ to bring it up too speed it will be worth it...

Good Luck...

The problem is that the dealer only gave the rubber tray to put the battery in for "warranty", but the rubber tray doesn't do jack and it still wobbles around significantly. I was thinking about making a bracket myself and mounting it on the left hand side of the subframe, basically locking the battery in from both sides. Problem with getting a bracket through warranty is that I've imported this bike, so dealers can't be of much help for me here.

I've already bought a new negative lead to replace the one that snapped, but fitting it without fixing the battery won't be of much help.

PS: $60 for the bracket? what's it made of, gold?

Ducati warantee should be good Globally..
If the serial # of the Hyper did not recieve the upgraded Bracket you are entitled to it Free of charge...Now just convince the local dealer that...
The bracket is worth half that with the desibn and the funky little hardware that comes with it...
Ask the dealer to run the serial # thru the system . and see if the "Recall" work has been applied to your bike...

You didn't buy a Ducati to save Money did you?

See if they will give you a deal , don't hurt to ask....
Be Nice now ...Maybe buy some other high priced necessities while you are there to show your Grattitude...Oil Filter . How are your belts are they original???
Maybe you might have to get them to do a service to get them to run the serial # thru ???

Yes BS but if it is done right . MIGHT be worththe $$$ spent,
Enjoy and don't sweat the small stuff...

No, I didn't buy a Duc to save money(heck, my last bike was a money guzzling Duc as well, but I'm only 21 and money isn't always flowing )

Not sure if my local dealer would be too gratuitous to swap the bracket under warranty, since I came to inquire about a hyper last Friday and have now purchased one somewhere else( but hey, it saved me $4000, so why not? ) The bike's done 10k miles and had its belts done last year march so they're good for another year. It already has had 3 services done so won't be needing any soon. Maybe I can try my other Duc dealer 10 miles further from this one ---> scratch that I just called them dealer and they said I had to bring my bike to them since there are several fixes and it differs per hyper.

I think the latest, greatest battery holding down set up is with velcro. That can be had cheap from a department store.
