HM 796 temp gauge question
On mine....i have never seen the temp gauge go past 3 bars. Seems odd...as i have been stuck in dead stop Interstate backups and the engine got so hot it stalled twice.
It's a 2010 HM 796 with less than 2200 miles.
Has anybody seen higher than 3 bars...or is mine broke?

I've never seen it get above 3 on mine even in the same stop and go traffic situations. Mine has never stalled from getting hot though.

Never gone past 3 bars or "STATUS 4" Oil temp between +91C and + 175C (195-347F)
4 bars would mean +176C to +187C (368F)
If mine did go 4 bars I think Id shut it dn and wait for the oil to quit boiling.
In Link below, the highest was 330F. Most never experienced more than 270F
So, what's the highest temp you guys have seen?

Well if no one's 796 ever got past 3 bars.....then i guess all our bikes are the same. Mine's dead stock except the 14 tooth front.
I'm getting not to like the 14 tooth front either. The 14 tooth is so small in diameter that the chain slaps the swingarm so loud...you'd think the transmission fell out on the road. I plan to buy a 2 teeth LARGER rear sprocket and put the stock 15 tooth front back on. Maybe that will stop the chain crashing noise. Yes the chain is adjusted correctly. It's even a little on the tight side.
Correction...14 x 41 = 2.93 overall gearing
so i need a 15 x 43 to get close with 2.87

Sooo....can somebody tell me why Ducati puts a temp gauge on a 796 when it doesn't mean a thing? No matter how hot you get it....the gauge never goes above 3 bars.

Maybe three bars is the max, and you're not supposed to go over two bars....
