Is it really bad for your bike to run it hard?

So after I broke in my bike Ive pretty much been ripping it. I haven't been exceeding 7000 rpm but accelerating hard turning hard getting very low in the curves just having plain old stupid fun but im a little concerned if im gonna compromise the life of my bike by enjoying it as I am. It sounds like a dumb question saying it but I don't want to ruin her. Whats your opinion on that?

yep dumb question! no seriously enjoy the bike, ride it how you like ..change the oil..etc...power tapers off at around 7500 rpm anyway..until you add better cams or air flow, then it call pull right thru to 8K+

but short shifting in the twisties is just a fun a revving it i find ...esp with all the torque below 6K

go for it mate is say

I broke mine in hard. Cycled up through the gears and back down to seal it tight for first 20 miles on clock.

I'm no expert but even in Hawaii I let bike warm up for a solid 2 min before i take off. My bike actually sounds smoother after I let it idle some after cold starts. I read somewhere about properly warming up the motor before any ride and the motor will be fine. Maybe someone smart can concur or flame me.

Maby ... and on paper id say yes every time, but over here in Wahiawa HI my 2011 EVO SP love to do cold motor wheeles. its almost like the clutch is cold and it grips harder or something.

Ive hade like 10 different ducks and that's pretty much been the story with them all. (but still i know due to the tolerances of a air cooled motor there is a lot of room for stuff to heat up and expand.)

on a side note Ive seen 100k + miles on the air cooled 1000. And ive put well over 40k on two or three of my M900's with no problems.

red 2011 1100 EVO SP.

Too late, you got close to 7000 rpm, you may have already ruined her, the Desmo valve system can't take the rpms too much past 5500 rpm too many times, also the crank bearings can fail, (mine did) because of going past the 5500 rpm mark. I would change my oil every 1000mi with a good motorcycle oil that is safe for the clutch, & I would get a handlebar shift light and set it to about 5000 rpm just to be safe. The Hypers run real hot too, and going past 5500 rpms will increase engine heat and can cause piston damage, and another thing, shifting past the 5500 rpm mark is also hard on the clutch, so I would probably shift closer to the 4600-4800 rpm mark just to play it safe, that way you will not compromise the life of you bike.....just saying Aloha Alex

Your drinkin the wrong water mister... lol

No for real, thats a good one. I thought ive herd it ALL but i stand corrected.

Aloha Alex

wrong wrong wrong

sorry to be so blunt, but Alex your way off base with that advice. (about your powerband and shift points. although it is obviously good to do frequent oil changes to ensure a long motor life)

I think Your mischievous son changed the number key faces on Your keyboard, Alex... Are You saying, with Your cams, Your bike redlines at ~6000? I thought shifting just before redline was the universal shifting point.

My bike flashes red on the instrument panel quite regularly.
Particularly when wound out in 3rd on the back wheel.
My main concern is oil starvation in that position.
