DP Muffler Fail

I was coming back from a weekend ride passing a car on the highway felt a little extra surge of power. "Wow these cams have a little extra bump" the exhaust note had changed and stayed that way. I look back to see this.

It was sort of a trombone effect it would slide out as I got on the throttle, and slide back in on the brake. I had notice earlier that one of the rivets was missing, but didn't expect this. You can get a replacement DP muffler for $899.00, but I'm just going to cut it a little shorter. Anyone ever see anything similar?

sorry to here about that.
the problem is without a metal insert it will happen again.
carbon fiber is all the same but the resins are more cosmetic for our uses, aerospace resins cost a arm and a leg but can take the extra stress.
i use to make carbon pieces as a hobby but its more time then its worth.
try to find a metal insert to rivet your outer metal ring to so it will have more strength.

Do a search, this is common with the 2-1 and the quiet insert.

If it was installed by a dealer within the past 24 months you may be able to get it covered under warranty. We have not seen this happen on one here...

Hmm...does that mean us shade tree mechanics are pretty much boned if we put it on?

It was installed at BCM in July 2008, I have EverRed, but they consider DP parts aftermarket and will not cover them. I think I'm going to cut it an inch shorter, weld bolts inside the end cap, and use screws to hold it in place. That way it will be easy to fix when it breaks again. If I have to cut an inch off every 3 years I have enough muffler to last for 27 years. At the 30 year mark I'll either have to get a new muffler, or move the muffler bracket.
