Handlebar Wiggle - Loose?

Hey guys - I saw this touched on an old thread last year, but I still have some questions.

I was stuck in center city last night and was really jerking the bike around dodging pot holes and the like. I noticed for the first time the feel of the 'rubber bushings' that are part of the handlebar risers. I looked down at the forks and noticed a 1/2 inch gap between the risers and the top of the triple clamp!

Surely this can't be normal! So I want home to tighten / line everything up, but the bolts are torqued down completely and even still marked with 'from the factory' paint showing that the bolts have not moved!

So I have to ask - is this normal? Should I be worried.

Yes its normal for it to have a feel like its on a cushion. However once I installed my damper (GPR) it dissapeared not because of the damper its self but because of the bracket.

I'm ok with the 'feeling on a cushion' - but I don't want my handlebars to come off mid ride. Is the space between my risers the same as on everyone else's bikes?

Is it the same distance on both? If it is I would say yes they look fine

I'll get out the ruler tonight - but they did not look 'skewed' to one side or the other. It just looked really weird with the air gap between the triple and the risers. There is even a recessed area in the triple where it looks like the risers would rest upon.
