Italians dumber than Germans?
Why is it my 2008 Husqvarna sm610, a $6000 motorcycle, came with a dual mode ecu that switched to a race map when you put a $5 plug in the o2 sensor, but my $13,000 Ducati needs, to the best I can figure it, multiple expensive aftermarket ecus/pcV/fatducs/tunes to run right w/ an aftermarket exhaust?
Italians can't figure this out? Are they just evil money grubbing bastards? Or is it something else?
I guess what I'm really looking for is the cheapest way to get a hm1100 to run well w/ stacks and a free-flowing exhaust?

How can any nation be dumber than ze Germans?
Unmöglich!
Now Mr. Ultrasmart, what is your bike´s configuration or was this just supposed to be a random rant about how you can not figure out what to do on your own?

Though owned by BMW, Husqvarna bikes are built in Italy.

Oh, I'm not ultrasmart - I'm Danish - we don't really build motorcycles at all...mostly we fish and bitch.
As for my setup, 08 1100 w/ cored stock pipes and the big tank put on, so they replaced the airbox w/ K&N filters I believe - I'm smart enough to leave all that mechanic stuff to the mechanics.

Your Husqvarna is the pretty far from being a "German" bike.
Husqvarna is basically a Cagiva.... Cagiva used to be owned by Ducati.
So...yah..hmmm.

Run open loop, sans 02 sensor, get the DP Race Cams with dedicated ECU... A skilled Duc mechanic would appoint this setup with relative ease... no need for a Power Commander or fatduc. Sure, a Power Commander would optimize fueling... I am holding out until I get an aftermarket oil cooler, then it's PCV + dyno tune time =

Get whatever aftermarket parts you want as far as exhaust and stacks. If its not a Termi that comes with the DP ECU get ur ECU reflashed based on the mods you have. Pro Italia offers a hefty discount on reflashing the ECU when you buy an exhaust system from them so that can save you some dough.
Besides the termi prices, its really not that bad considering prices of the dual exhaust systems on other bikes that have 2 canisters, its just limited and almost every design of exhaust has a flaw to it.
If you look in the right place ur looking at around anywhere from $600 to 1K for and exhaust, air filter, and ecu.
As we speak im doing this myself and have this so far, Spark slip ons $750, MVR air filter $110, and ECU reflash $310 and freaking tons of research.....

1Badduck;
That was a great post!
I don't think it's a case of the Italians being dumb, I think it's that Husky can pull from BMW's resources - engineering and purchasing. It's easy to forget that Ducati only makes around 40,000 bikes per year. The last number I heard for Honda was in 2007 I think and it was 19,000,000! Back in the 80's I read an article by Vaughn Beals, CEO of Harley, and he was talking about how hard
it is for Harley to buy "only" a few thousand of a specialized items compared to what Honda would buy.

Being danish surely gets you bonus points on my side
I also have cored stock pipes with a stock ECU and stock filter, it runs very well.
If yours is choking, I´d like to suggest to get the throttle position sensor reset and the CO adjusted. Most of the time this will cure many problems.
If you want an open exhaust and don´t want to spend 2000$ on a Termi, I´d get the SC Project.

Don't ask me how I know, but Ducati publishes "optimistic" sales figures. It's real numbers are considerably less that what they say it is.
