New pressure plate - problem?
Hey all,
Put on a new EVR vented pressure plate w/new springs and caps yesterday. Took it out for a ride and from time to time the bike would "shudder" when the clutch started engaging. Didn't do this prior to the new plate in the 3 weeks I've had the bike.
I also noticed that I could really hear the clutch even when the bike was under slight throttle around 3k - 4k RPM. Again, not the case before (although clearly it will be much more noisy now).
I re-checked everything and its installed correctly, all bolts nice and snug. FWIW, this was the first time I was 2 up on the bike, although my old lady weighs barely 110 lbs and I'm only 170...so having her on there really shouldn't make a difference.
Any tips are appreciated!
Cheers - ak

basic pressure plate installation question: did you line up the mark on the new pressure plate (usually a dot, a slot or a triangle mark) with the post with the "slot" on the head in clutch basket?
for reference, the photo below shows a pressure plate with a slot on one of the spring holes AND a triangle on the face, and also shows the slot on the spring bolt post.
and if you did install the new pressure plate correctly, perhaps your clutch plates are starting to wear/glaze, and need inspection/cleaning/replacement.

I took notice of the triangle on the stock face and slotted spring hole, however, on the new EVR there was no dot, triangle, mark, or anything else that would suggest where to line it up. Hence, I assumed (perhaps wrongly?) that this was not needed on the EVR.
This is the model I have...anyone else have it and can provide insight?

Note if you enlarge the picture, there is no indicator like on the stock plate.

some pressure plates have the mark located either on the inside of the spring hole, or on the back surface of the plate. every non-slipper pressure plate i have seen has some sort of mark on it ... some are just harder to locate

I have that same pressure plate. There is a dot on the back side of it. Line that up with the notched post. Tighten up the screws in a star pattern (not too tight) when reinstalling and you should be good to go.

The dot is next to the spring hole that lines up with a spline. If you don't see the dot look on the back side. One of the splines will be centered on one of the spring holes. Put that hole over the post with the slot in it.
There are 37 splines and six holes. I think that you can get the plate to go on mismatched since 36 is a multiple of 6 but 37 isn't but is very close.

my head just exploded from the complexity of that statement ... reminded me of those pesky algebra problems involving a farmer, a train moving @ 60 mph and a hooker

Yeah, a couple pictures will explain better. The first picture is the back of the stock pressure plate. The black marker line represents the cast triangle on the stock plate. You can see that the spline lines up with triangle. The other holes are close but not quite centered.
The second is the plate mounted with the triangle moved one hole from where it should be. You can see that it goes on but the holes don't line up well. I don't know if that would cause the noise but it doesn't look good!

I'm glad someone finally explained why the mark is there... Those pictures make it perfectly clear.
Thanks Riko!
