lanesplitting whack; 1 mirror gone, 1 to go?

Just a matter of time I guess. Whack on a car's mirror, black plastic goes flying. Notice the mirror insert is shattered and just dangling there. After existing off the freeway into my town, I notice the mirror insert has fallen out. Hah...

I only used the left mirror anyway, so I just replaced it with the intact right mirror. We'll see how long that lasts, after which I'll go for those aftermarket 'slide up' mirrors that some guy showcased in a forum thread long ago. Anybody recall those mirrors? I can't seem to find them. They were roundish, with arms that mounted on the far end of an (aftermarket) handguard, and then would slide up/down.

i have had the CRG lane splitter mirrors on my hypertard for a few years now ... having removed the stock mirrors prior to their most certain demise and storing them in a safe place in the garage

i have found the CRGs to be molto better than the stock mirrors, as they are smaller (don't stick out nearly as much as the stock ones), are more durable and don't vibrate at all, even at speed (so offer a better view).

i purchased the CRGs @ motostrano, in redwood city

I drive around town in SF and the first thing I did was get the ducati mickey mouse mirrors. The fold out mirrors made my bike stick out too much with all the drivers out there not sharing the lane with me.

I have the Streetfighter mirrors on mine with Rizoma adapters...raises up the mirrors and gives it a nice wasp-y look.

I commute over the Bay Bridge on mine, so there was no way the long mirrors and hand guards were gonna work for me!

Cheers,
AK

I also have the CRG lane splitters and like them. As stated above, there is NO vibration at speed. The only thing that took some getting used to was the old "objects are larger than appear in mirror" thing. I always check over my shoulder before doing a lane change anyway, but especially at night it can throw you off.

The mirrors that the OP was looking for are actually for dual sport bikes and "Mangler" has them on his bike.

When I go to Cali (MotoGP is coming up!!), I just fold in my mirrors when I split. I don't spend very much time on the highway anyway and filtering is done at lower speeds so then I just watch them.

If I lived there, I would ditch the mirrors and put on bar ends but mount them to the bars just inside of the control pods and have the mirror part over the controls just like "Tard" had on his bike for a while. I tried this when I put bar ends on my FiL's Monster and I can see under my arm.

agree ... i too had streetfighter mirrors on my hypertard for a few weeks ... liked that i didn't need to fold them in when lane-sharing (hey, that's the legal term here in california ) ... but noticed they still vibrated more than the CRGs do.

and as another poster mentions in this thread, the CRGs do have a convex mirror, and as such do require getting used to when judging distances of objects ... but as long as you're on the gas, no worries
