I'm new on this forum yet I've already read several threads that contained posts from new Hyper owners who mistakenly believe that their warranty will be voided if they do not get service from their dealer, or any Ducati dealer, for that matter.
In 1975 congress passed the Magnuson-Moss Warranty Act, which among other things, specifies that warranties cannot be restricted by dealer service requirements. All you have to do to maintain your warranty is to keep a service log and receipts, including those for oil/filters, etc. (dates, mileage, parts, receipts, and services). Besides, the log should be kept anyway to help with resale value.
Dealers who tell you otherwise are either ignorant of the law, or are duplicitous. You can either educate them, ignore them, or contact Ducati USA, who obviously are familiar with the law.
Search Wikipedia for "Magnuson-Moss Warranty Act" for more specifics.
Feel free to do your own service or employ anyone who is competent. Obviously, incompetent service work can affect your warranty claims.
