Thin film on tank from gas spill

I'll be investing in a tank cover eventually. In the mean time, any tips on getting this off besides fire?

Wax on. Wax off.

Gasoline seems to react with the plastic, creating a thin, hard film that peels in places and otherwise stays on. It's a little obnoxious.

Here is a photo of what I'm talking about.

Nothing I've tried does much to get it off except gently scraping with a fingernail. I'd be surprised if no one's had to deal with this.

Hmm I spilled gas and didn't get that film, you sure it's not just wax or something that reacts with the gas?

Did you buy the bike used? It looks like the black plastic was clear coated and the clear coat is peeling off.

I haven't ever put wax on it. It could be some additive in the gas in Texas that isn't found in other places? Strange.

Bought it brand new from the dealership. No clear coating.
