It looks good
Still got a few more months in Afghanistan, and was set on the hyper. Until I saw the new speed triple and I must say it looks amazing. I had my wife go to the local dealership and snap a few photos and get a quote. I can get everything that is shown plus 3-1 arrow exhaust for cheaper then what an SP would cost me. What you guys think?

It got pretty good reviews in the motorcycle rags and they look good too. Unfortunately, it will never be a 90* twin so you will be always be envious of that sound and the torque.
Out!

Hard to beat the midrange torque charasteristic of the DS1100 motor but as far as the exhaust note goes, I would defnitely give the nod to the Speed Triple over the Hyper. I would say the Triple is about equal to the 900SS motor in terms of exhaust note appeal.

I say wait till u come back, see them in person and maybe get a test ride and then kill the wife, collect insurance money and buy both?
It is a hard choice, good luck and let us know how it goes..

my list was the following when I bought my hyper in 08:
1. hyper
2. speed triple
3. monster S2R
It is a tough choice. I do not regret my decision for a second. I rode with a few guys with the speed triple. All though it is a very cool bike, their experience didn't even compare to how much fun I am having with my hyper.

looks
We all know looks are subjective. But it's FUGLY! The Hyper has to me... way better design sense. Speed triple is like beer goggles for bikes.

Wow that was exactly the same list for me as well! The Speed Triple's downfall was it was so expensive to insure and it just felt crude. I did like the Monster a lot but the extra kick of the 1100 motor over the 1000 won me over.

Agreed, I think they ruined the looks of the Speed Triple with those weird goggles. Fuctionally it's supposed to be a much better bike however than the old Speed Triple; and those Triples sound sooooo good!
