Clutch Pull...want more!

Will replacing the clutch slave with a big bore type (Evoluzione) make it so more pull is required to engage the clutch?

I've searched for my specific issue and I think that might be the way to solve it, here's my whinny complaint:

My 748 needs the lever pulled in almost all the way to engage the clutch. This I like! Easy to blip to match revs on down shifts...it has the newer style pumps (off a 1098), but it also has an Evoluzione slave. My Hyper's clutch engages very early in the pull....a lot different than my 748....I hate switching between bikes because of it. It's hard to get used to so I want them to match as much as possible. The Hyper is all stock in regards to the the clutch. Thanks for the advice.

I went ahead and installed a 28.5mm Evoluzione slave and made a world of difference. Easier pull still than my 748 still with the same clutch master, stock springs are lighter on the Hyper.

Interesting. I too switch back and forth between bikes and they don't clutch the same at all, but it's never been an issue. My hands seem to just know which clutch lever is under them or something because I never even notice it after the first pull.

Maybe you use the clutch differently than I do...

Yeah, those are the ones. I think my slave may have been going out, not sure, it just sucked really bad, but before it never was an issue. It's all good now with the new slave. According to the Evoluzione site, they say the stock slave is guaranteed to fail at some point It's easy to blip the throttle to match revs when down shifting for me now. It's pretty fun doing it when braking hard before a turn. Starting doing it on the track last weekend.

Ok so im ready to purchase a clutch slave and am wondering if you were wanting or mean the same thing I am as far as pull.

What im looking for is that when down shifting and releasing the clutch lever I want the clutch to grab sooner. Whats happening to me besides having a hard lever is that when I downshift I basically have to release the lever almost all the way out before I actually get some engine braking to kick in, and on top of that the amount of space of play when it finally kicks in is very small.

It feels like the clutch does nothing when the lever is all the way in (adjacent to the grip) up until to 3/4 out/released, after I reach 3/4 it finally kicks in and the amount left to modulate the clutch is very minor.

Will a slave help?

I rode 78,000 miles on my 749 with the stock clutch slave. It was still working fine when it went to a new home... I'm sure it is guaranteed to fail at some point, I just never got there!

The problem you described is the same thing I had going on too. A new slave gave more room for modulation. I installed a 28.5mm, but there are bigger ones out there. Might make it harder to find neutral.

My original slave on 748 didn't leak until I sold it! Because if that I'm not selling my hyper's. I'll give it away if anybody wants it for the cost of shipping.

Thanks that's exactly the answer I was looking for, modulate. I was going to use the word "modulate" but was afraid you wouldn't get what I was trying to explain, so I went through all that above. Guess I was wrong!!!
Thanks again.

+1 on this...my '08 1100's clutch does not engage until the last few millimeters of the level all the way released and has VERY little room to play, basically fully engaged or not...I want it the exact opposite, I want it to engage immediately and give me more room to balance throttle + clutch.

Cheers,
AK
