796 Steering Damper
Hello everyone,
This is my first post here (other than the intro one ofc) so please bare with me...
I ride a 2010 796 and would like to fit a steering damper to it.
Seen quit a few posts mentioning Scotts, Ohlins and the difference between them.
Took me a while, but eventually I figured that the posts were regarding 1100's only and that the two for mentioned brands don't carry dampers to fit the 796, but only the 1100's (so claim both sales reps).
My local Duc dealer offered me a linear damper made for Ducati Gubellini (cat 96788910B) claiming it's the only one he's had fit to the 796.
Now to my question, sry about all that banter, but has anyone found an alternative to the Gubellini damper, has anyone tried the Gubellini, or can anyone enlighten us to the difference between the 796 options if there are any others known.
Thanks,
|

ok, sry for replying to my own post, i'm sure i'll get a shellacking for this one.
I just found that GPR are now making a rotory damper for the 796.
Has anyone had any experience with this kit or can anyone compare it to the DP kit by Gubellini?
Thx again and sry for the newbness....

I have the GPR installed on my 796.
It comes with a new handlbar clamp, and it feels about the same height as the original.
The instructions suck since they are basically the same ones for their 2008 1100 kit. The 796 is a bit different, but I got it figured out. You will use 4 of the original washers when you fit it back on.
Due to not having enough thread showing while trying to re-attach my carbon ignition cover, I had to go back to using the OEM one. Now that I just bought a dremel tool, I will go back to see about trying to modify my carbon cover a bit to get it to work.
I am very happy with this damper. It is slick looking, easy to use, and works great. Over here in Asia I guess people have not seen any hypers with a GPR damper installed. It is always the first thing they seem to comment on.
I will try to post a pic of it tomorrow.

Scotts and Ohlins are the same by the way. (built in the same shop, owned by same guy)
And I think the most reasonable way is to get a linner damper. There is a mount on ebay someone is making to use the stock SBK damper and it onley cost about $100 granted you still need the damper but at least the SBK dampers are way more common.
Here is one (a bit more expensive but you get the idea)
ebay# 110683639243

Expand on that statement please. That does not sound right.

I just installed a FOR tonight, although mine is an 1100. Horrible directions but a straightforward install. Looks good, feels good. Low price and fast service from Indy Superbikes online.
