New member...new Hyper 796
I picked up a new 2010 matte black Hyper 796 today. Only dumb question i can think of at the moment is...why does that red light continually flash on the gauge cluster? I had a Multi 1000 S for a short period ,...and that one had a yellow light that flashed continually. I did read the new Hyper owners handbook...and there is no explaination of why that light flashes. Does that light flashing prohibit a Deltran battery tender from fully charging the battery? On my Multi...it would charge....but the light on the Battery tender would never turn green. Will the Hyper do the same thing?

Congrats on the bike...
The bike has an Immobilizer integrated into the dash, ignition key and ECU. Sort of make it harder to just hot wire the bike. Or it makes asshats who steal very frustrated so they either know it and pass on the Duc, or don't know it and just plain do stupid stuff that dont work.
The blinking light shows you and the asshat that your protected. If let to sit, the blinking will stop after a while. Has nothing to do with your trickle charger. That is another story if you were not able to achieve a green light on the tender.
If you have your owners manual, read the section on the Immobilizer, make sure you have your secret code in your wallet, should you ever need it. Might need to copy the instructions for entering the code if you ever have an Immobilizer issue. I dont hear of many of them... unless others care to chime in on that.

CONGRATS !!!
The flashing red light is a Warning that the bike should be inmediately started and ridden or it will self destruct. If you don`t want this to happen, find the two neon-red-electrosolar wires that run under the tank and cut them, this wires supply neutrons to the igniter that`s installed inside the tank for blowing the gas after 1 hour of inactivity.
Now, Stop writing silly things and GO RIDING and put some miles on that awesome machine you just got before it goes BOOMM !!!!!!

If it's doing that while your riding, then it's the rev limiter light and you should try shifting to any one of the other 5 gears for it to stop, at least temporarily.....
If you are parked, it's the immobilizer like they said.
Just wanted to cover all of the bases for the new guy.

it's the light that turns on to remind you the bike is in reverse gear. Make sure you shift out of reverse before taking off in the am

Thanks Dave.....i'm an old roadracer..and since this bike hasn't seen 7k yet...it's not the rev limiter. Still...no one has told me why the light is on sometimes WHILE PARKED....and other times it's not on WHILE PARKED.
It's no biggie...i'm just curious what triggers the light. I know it's the immobilizer light...but i can't figure out the timeing.

After you shut off the key, the light will blink for a period of time. When that time expires, the light stops, until you turn on and off the key again and then the timer starts all over again.
When I go to MotoGP, I will go to the bike and cycle the key just before I shut off the lights and go to bed. If someone is "casing" the bike, "lights out" is the best time to steal it as they have a longer timeline before it is discovered missing.
Hopefully, the light is enough of a deterant, if not, the cable and lock between the bikes should help.

"Still...no one has told me why the light is on sometimes WHILE PARKED....and other times it's not on WHILE PARKED".
Seven9six, in case you have not counted well, in order for the red light to be a "blinker", it has to be 1/2 time on, and 1/2 time off !!!!!!!!
If you stare at it for more than two seconds, you will see what I mean. And remember, cut the two neon orange wires, I just spoke with DNA, and No, it will not void the warranty, as long as the bike has not blown up yet.
