Clutch Problems??
Went to carwash and sprayed off hyper really good and wiped down. Started up but kinda bogged a bit. Rode home and clutch lever felt weird like it wasn't engaging fully. Made it home, bout a mile from carwash, and clutch lever wouldn't let me squeeze down fully anymore, only bout a 1/4 now. Feels really stiff like the brake. I turned off and started it back up and metal shards shot out open clutch cover. Clutch was spinning but very wobbly now. I turned it off and stood bike upward and heard a ping drop sound like a loose bolt fell inside or something. There was nothing on the ground. I'm hoping it's just the plates. I'm gonna let it cool off and then gonna open it up. Any ideas??

1. check to see that the bearing in the pressure plate is not seized
2. make sure the little clutch spring bolts are still tight
3. check the big clutch basket nut is still tight
good luck, Aloha Alex

What do you have for a pressure plate?
The stock setup seems fragile/cheezy and bringing a hot motor into the car wash and spraying cold water on it may have cause some components to "pop".
Time to take apart the clutch and see what's up.

Well I went to take off clutch cover 1st thing I noticed was the clutch plate was pushed out. That might have created the metal shards as it spun and made contact with the clutch cover. Took all the plates and they look rusted and pretty worn. ( Hyper only has 4300 miles. ) Clutch lever still won't engage at all any more. Spoke to my mechanic and asked me if my clutch reservoir fluid went down, BINGO! He's certain the clutch piston got pushed out ( I have no clue except maybe the water pressure from the carwash pushed it in and shot out when I rode it home. ) So I'm hoping that's the only issue. I'm taking it to him on Tuesday to get it fixed. Looks like I gotta find some new clutch plates and possibly springs too. I bought the hyper used but I'm certain it's the stock clutch and pressure plate. Only thing the original owner swapped out was the clutch cover for open one.

you need to measure the plates for thickness before you just replace them. They are much thinner than brake pads. Someone on here should be able to get you some specs on what the thickness should be.
desmotimes.com is a good place for clutch parts.

Really? I figured there would just be a standard aftermarket clutch plate kit to replace the stock ones. I started looking online and found these:
2008-2009 Ducati Hypermotard HM1100 / HM1100S Barnett RQ Clutch Kit - Complete - Sale!
Is that a good price? I've never had to replace any clutch plates on any motorcycle I've owned. This is a first.

what I am saying is, I would measure the plates to see if they are worn past their recommended thickness before I would replace them.
desmotimes.com has the Barnett for $10 cheaper. There is a useful FAQ on there are well pertaining to cluthch plate choices.

Oh I get ya now! I'm gonna let my mechanic look at the plates 1st before I pull the trigger on ordering new plates just to make sure the stock ones are good or bad. Just sucks not being able to ride over the next week.

I feel your pain. I took the hyper out for the first spring ride after putting stacks, light weight flywheel, zeta bars, and some other goodies on and the thing locked into gear, again. Going on three weeks at the dealer waiting for parts to come from italy.
I have levers, grips, and slave cylinder waiting to mount too. The only thing keeping me sane is my track day tomorrow with the new forks, race tires, and tire warmers on the track bike! I didn't waste any time this winter.
