Blown bulb/fuse ...help!
So, twice in the past week my '10 796 has blown both the license plate bulb and the 15a "LIGHTS" fuse, causing the headlight and taillight to go out. All other bulbs and fuses are ok. The filament in the plate bulb is super thin, so I'm not surprised it's breaking, but would that then cause the fuse to blow?
The bike hasn't had front turn signals since last year but I didn't see this problem until I recently disassembled everything for paint. The bike went back together fine and everything worked as before until this issue came up.
Anyone seen this problem before? Any theories?

Because it was just reassembled, I would look for a pinched wire/wiring loom around the lights causing the blown fuses.

I had the same problem.. Mine was a pinched license plate light wire because of the way I did the tidy tail.. Bought an LED tag light and rewired it. 3 LED TAG LIGHT License Plate Universal GSXR R1 R6 CBR | eBay
Then I mounted the plate by the battery box and attached the light.

Great! Thanks for the quick responses guys - at least now I have a few leads to look into. The bit about the ground is interesting, I didn't know that. The light is mounted to a custom made stainless plate bracket which is bolted to the subframe right behind the battery, so I could easily run a short ground wire to it. Thanks again, I'll post again when its fixed to let you know what the culprit was.

FIXED!
Cal you were almost right - the ground lead is in contact with the mounting studs but they should NOT be grounded to anything. The relocation bracket was providing a path to ground through the subframe due to it being stainless (as opposed to the factory plastic one), so I put some nylon grommets in there and that did the trick. Thanks again folks

Duke, make shure you get good fuses before you leave the store. The other day I bought a few and when I checked them with the omg-meter they were ALL shorted from the factory. Too bad. I went back to the store and they gave me one was not shorted ( for free, they were really nice !!! ). The only problem is that my lights still do not work with the new fuse.
Now I don`t know what to do.
