Hello from Brazil - Soon to buy 796, few doubts
Hello all,
I've been researching the forum for some time, but now that I've decided to buy the 796 I'd like to clear some left doubts.
1 - I am planning to carry my girlfriend in some of my trips (small trips ~150km) how comfortable will she be? I noticed there's no handles to grab so she will have to hold me entire time?
2 - There's any possible mod for luggage? When traveling alone I'm pretty sure I will be able to carry all I need in my backpack, but when traveling with her I highly doubt it.
3 - I've had many bikes, especially dirt bikes, when I was 13 to 20 years old, but I've hadn't any bike for the last 6 years and the the biggest motor I ever had was a 250cc, so should I take any special care related to handling and driving security? Any special hints related to that?
4 - I'm thinking of buying the gear that follows, is it good stuff for urban use + short trips? Helmet AGV K3, Boots AS SMX-2, Gloves AS SMX-2, Jacket AS T-RC 1, Pants AS AS-T1.
I know many of you recommend buying the 1100 instead of the 769, but to buy imported vehicles here in Brazil we pay a LOT of taxes, so the 769 costs for us nearly USD22K, so u can imagine the 1100, they aren't even available in most of the dealers.
Thanks in advance for you help, I will be happy to share pics from the Brazilians roads with you guys as soon as I can!

1) Sorry there are no handles she will have to grip tight to you
2) Make the GF wear the back pack ...LOL
3) Dirt and road are 2 different ball parks i was the same as you...rode lots of dirt bikes not much road time though...Id say the best advice look out for dumb motorist and sand.
4)As for gear sounds good ...i ride with the Shoei Hornet DS...and i love it ...breathes well and is very comforable
I think you will be just fine with the 796 ...Im happy with mine.....i wanted the 1100 hyper but the price and insurance would have killed me.....i did get one hell of a deal though on my 2010 796 left over...only 8899 us
Hope this helps and good luck!!!!

Everything that doesn´t fit in a backpack is overkill, teach her to travel light...

Actually, there is a handle.
It's the taillight "wing" just behind the seat. It is designed to serve as a passenger grab handle as well.

Hello all,
I've been researching the forum for some time, but now that I've decided to buy the 796 I'd like to clear some left doubts.
1 - I am planning to carry my girlfriend in some of my trips (small trips ~150km) how comfortable will she be? I noticed there's no handles to grab so she will have to hold me entire time?
She will be fine. I ride 2-up with my wife on my 796 and she is quite comfortable. Her only complaint is her ass gets hot when running long stretches of highway above 65 mph.
2 - There's any possible mod for luggage? When traveling alone I'm pretty sure I will be able to carry all I need in my backpack, but when traveling with her I highly doubt it.
I haven't really looked into options for luggage but there are a few older threads about it on here.
3 - I've had many bikes, especially dirt bikes, when I was 13 to 20 years old, but I've hadn't any bike for the last 6 years and the the biggest motor I ever had was a 250cc, so should I take any special care related to handling and driving security? Any special hints related to that?
The front end is soft and will dive under braking. I would say the soft feeling is similar to riding my KTM 450 exc on the street.
4 - I'm thinking of buying the gear that follows, is it good stuff for urban use + short trips? Helmet AGV K3, Boots AS SMX-2, Gloves AS SMX-2, Jacket AS T-RC 1, Pants AS AS-T1.
I think all the aplinestars stuff is good. Though I like more foot leg/protection so I have an older SMX-5 style boot.

Ive never riden 2 up on mine. The super soft suspension and diving issue Ive had worries me a tad, sometimes my forks stay slightly compressed! after I have stopped. Im 220 and adding another 120 I doubt will help the issue. Traxxion and I are working on this as we speak
2 - There's any possible mod for luggage? When traveling alone I'm pretty sure I will be able to carry all I need in my backpack, but when traveling with her I highly doubt it.
Put a back pack on her! haha. Sounds like you're looking for more of a dual sport bike have you looked into beemers?
3 - I've had many bikes, especially dirt bikes, when I was 13 to 20 years old, but I've hadn't any bike for the last 6 years and the the biggest motor I ever had was a 250cc, so should I take any special care related to handling and driving security? Any special hints related to that?
The hyper will feel fast at first but you'll get use to it real quick and wished you got the 1100 (don't get too cocky on her though she'll still surprise you from time to time).
4 - I'm thinking of buying the gear that follows, is it good stuff for urban use + short trips? Helmet AGV K3, Boots AS SMX-2, Gloves AS SMX-2, Jacket AS T-RC 1, Pants AS AS-T1.
I ride in velocity gear with some icon gloves, a shoei helomet, and dickie pants so I don't have any real input for these.

rafael,
there is a ducati luggage set that attaches to the front tank, you should be able to find this used on ebay or on this site...
or, you can go with the aftermarket and I believe there are quite a few options

What site? Didn't find those on Ebay, but they look perfect.
BTW friend of mine is going to Europe next week, if you have tips where to buy bike gear in London or online, please let me know!
