Short and Hyper

I have a new 796 and I needed to shave the seat and make adjustments because my feet are nearly 4" off the ground stock . Waiting on the gel insert I purchased for the seat, then I THINK I can ride it, its driving me crazy sitting in my garage!! I haven't even told all my riding friends about the new bike yet. Ugh.

We also adjusted the rear spring, I need to do something to the front, but thats hard on this bike.

Anyway, That is all. Thank you.

Oh, BTW... I did take it around the block with no seat cushion and my butt was bruised for days!

If you manage to shave the heck out of it topside, you may want to just add padded bicycle shorts to your attire. Fox also makes a padded spandex like shorts. Sounds like you definitely have to lower the bike. As long as you maintain the front / rear adjustments and not just one, you should be ok, but you will lose a little ground clearance. If that's the case, to offset lowering, you can add rearsets to bring your feet higher and gain back some ground clearance.

I would rather not add yet another layer of gear, but not a bad idea. Good thought on the rearsets, forgot about that.

Get the adjustable rear link from the S model, then lower the back some more. You can also drop the front forks 1/4-1/2 " which will help too.

You have to remove the duck bill to get at the front triple bolts, but it is not too hard. I did all of these for my 29" inseam, along with the DP low seat, and it helped a lot.

Ya another short guy here (5'-6"). Went to a local place to have a guy look at the bike and to see what he could do with the seat. He said easily can take off a half inch but said it would not be too comfortable for long rides. Better think about the adjustable linkage and shock first.

You could trim the seat, Lower the bike and wear these.

Well, I shaved the seat from the bottom and I am going to replace the 2-3" of foam I removed with 5/8" gel pad and the remaining 1" of foam, I think it should be pretty good. I don't think you would even notice removing a half inch, I wonder he thought that.

If if doesn't work, on to plan B with the lowering link. I still have an untouched stock seat just in case.
