New Buyer

I am currently in Afghanistan for another 4 months, I am a contractor and am looking into getting hyper. Either 1100 EVO or SP, I just dont know if I need all the extras the SP offers. My rides will mainly consist of daily commuting around Austin, TX. My wife is allowing 16k max purchase and if I go with the SP then im pretty much maxed out. On the other hand if I go with the 1100 EVO i can buy the 2-in-1 termis on the spot along with a few extras. Let me know if the SP is worth it and just hold out on the exhaust for a little or just get the 1100 and spring for the goodies of the bat.

Tough choice but if forced: Evo + Termi > Evo SP.

Buy a used 09 S well equiped for 10k and take your wife on vacation, several times.

IMO, 16k on a Hyper is way too much.
I would choose a multi over a hyper for that kind of money.

+1. I'd consider an 08 base model for 8K (well modded for that price) add some suspension bits. I think you'd be very happy with the results for way, way less than 16K.

Here is just one of several examples in our classified section;

FS: 2008 Ducati Hypermotard 1100 4k miles..$8,000...NJ

As I am in Afghanistan I am basing everything off MSRP and have not contacted a dealer as of yet. I still have 4 months left here so I am sure when I walk in with cash in hand their will be some wiggle room. I would think that cash money would make any dealer think twice. I am not really in the used market for this bike it is my present to myself for being over here for a year and change. How are your experiences with dealers been when negotiating on Ducatis, especially when you have cash in hand?

Is the EVO SP worth it over an EVO or `08, it was for me I sold my `08 base with some carbon and Termi 2-1 for 2010 EVO SP. The SP had a lot of the things I wanted to change on my `08. Though buying an EVO or previous model is nice if you have a $ limit and want a Termi 2-1.

And with all the money I'm saving with the current EVO 2 sparkplug motor vs. the `08 dual spark (4 plugs) motor I'll be able to afford a Termi 2-1 in 100 years.

Cash in hand meant squat to the dealers I went to a few weeks back,it doesnt matter cash or finance to them.I ended up with a used 08,bought from a member here.Very happy with the result..

I would personally go with a base model 08 or 09. Then I would spend the remainder on a set of cartridges, rebuild of rear shock, duc shop stacks, PCV with auto tune, termi 2-1's, zeta bars, nice levers, slipper clutch, etc.

There is a LOT of parts that you can pick up for $8k. The 08 hyper with all those parts would be a much better bike than a stock SP.

Totally agree with Willy... Cash don't mean squat. I paid cash for mine in '09 and had to fight for 2 weeks to get them to throw in the setup. On top of MSRP.

But some dealers might be better than others. Mine has asked me why I dont' buy parts from them (duh, no discount from list is the main reason).
