Trackday Sunday!!

Well I'm going this sunday to my 1st trackday on the hyper and taking my old R6 as well to switch back & forth. I plan on changing the oil ( Motul 300V 15W50 4T full synthetic & KN 153 oil filter ), just put some brand new Dunlop Q2 tires (Plan on 30F/28R) and plan to clean & lube chain. Couple questions:

This will be the 1st time I do any service to Hyper since I bought it used:

1. Where the hell is the oil drain bolt?
2. Where is the fuse box so I can pull the fuses for lights?
3. Should I take off handguards and where does turn signals disconnect?
4. Is it a pain in the ass to take off stock plate bracket?

I don't have an oil filter wrench that will fit so I plan on doing the old screwdriver & hammer trick. Its ghetto but has worked many times on removing stock oil filters.

I'm sure I'll have more questions but this info or any other for that matter will be greatly appreciated! Thanks!

1. There are a few places but the main drain is the 10mm allen key in the bottom of the sump. (the screen is the 14mm and 6mm under the horizontal head pipe)

2. Not too sure about that I have had the tank off of mine and can't recall seeing one under there.

3. Hand guards will break with the slightest touch down. The wire connectors are in a big black rubber boot on the left side near the steering neck under the side panel.

4. 4 screws under the muffler (maybe 2 more on the intigrated mud flap) and 3 wire connectors under the seat by the exhaust flapper solenoid.

I wouldn't ghetto off the filter if you get it too chewed up the filter is quite recessed in the oil sump then.

How much oil does it need?
I bought a gallon.

I don't remove the plate/mud flap. I just unplug the signal/brake light connectors and tape them up. I also just unplug the head light plug which is down near the frame on the front right of the bike.

Napa should have a filter wrench for you to buy for a few $$$. I've done the screwdriver thing and it is risky with such a recessed filter. The filter is also easy to over tighten, so it could be on there with some ass.

I take the hand guards off, easy to do. The fuse box for the headlights is under the right side fairing, one fuse if I remember correctly. As far as the taillight is concerned unplug it, connection is under the seat.

just pull the two blue 15a fuses and that will kill all your lights. the fuel light will flash but no big deal. tape up your lenses and you're good to go.

I actually prefer to pull the plug because I use the bike over my track bike to get to and from certain places within the track compound and it is simple to plug and unplug it when I need the bike. I learned something about where the fuse is though.

Thanks for all the replies! Info was very helpful! Took off handguards/mirrors ( looks so much better by the way ), pulled fuses, took off plate fender and turn signals. Ol' flathead & hammer trick worked just fine for oil filter, guess I've just done it to many times. Can't wait for tomorrow!!

Hyperfern, did you ride at TWS? If so how was it? Bought an old R6 myself for the track as I just don't want to deal with the $$$ of a dropped Hyper. Pathetic, I know. The much smaller Grand Sport Speedway nearby would suit the Hyper perfectly, I may just have to nut up & do a few laps with it sometime...
