Clutch question

So I read that the HM has a dry clutch and the bike I am on now has a wet clutch. I was taught that on a wet clutch you can be in the friction zone a lot more than on say a car clutch (dry) and it wont wear it out near as bad. I guess what I am asking is should I ride the HM different then my current bike as far as being in the friction zone or should i treat it more like a car and not "hang out" in the friction zone?

The reason I ask is my family has a cabin with a long steep gravel drive and going up it at a slow speed would likely be easier and safer but I do not wanna destroy my clutch.

and i always thought friction zone was just a motorcycle magazine ...
Friction Zone Magazine - Motorcycle Travel and Information

if your questions is asking if you can feather the clutch while riding up the long steep gravel drive ... unless this drive has a lot of technical switchbacks, i don't think you would need to feather the clutch on a hyper ... you should be able to just ride up in gear without touching the clutch ... but that's just the way i roll.

net-net ... feathering the clutch on a dry clutch ducati will most likely lessen the clutch pack life, as it would even on a wet clutch equipped bike. you will just hear the clutch pack wear more on a dry clutch, especially if it has an open cover.

I guess it depends on where you live and how many MSF courses you've taken but, the common term IS "friction zone" not feathering the clutch, unless you like "tickling" your equipment or other kinky shit.

I have to agree. The term used around here is also "feather the clutch".

Most street and dirt riders agree that to feather or feathering the clutch is what you would be doing.
