Motocross background and hyper
Looking to make a purchase in the next month or so as there is still snow on the ground up here and I think I've got it narrowed down to a hyper. Originally I was at a toss up between the hyper and the fighter but after doing some reading on here I think I'll save the fighter for when I have more experience as it would probably punch me in the face, lol. My main source of motorcycle experience is offroad in motocross and trail riding for many years and countless bikes. Started out on a honda 50 when I was 5 and at 32 Iv'e rode everything from 125 through 500cc two strokes and 50 through 450cc four strokes so I'm just wondering from all the hyper owners out there how well you think motocross experience will translate to the hyper? I know its not just a motocross bike with street tires but the stance seems very much the same. Still wont get to ride one for another month to make a final decision but I think the ride position would seem quite normal for me, am I completely making a wrong assumption in expecting this thing to handle remotely similar?

Recently got the chance to try on a track an old 2 strokes CR250 (2000).
It was so violent and brutal it made my Hyper feels soft and gentle

Hyper has the dirt bike riding position but the Hyper is ridden like a sportbike = Knee out, butt off.
If you really want the dirt bike riding experience on the street (leg out) you might want to check out the KTM 690SMC or Husky SM630.

To be honest I'm kinda looking for something in between, I love how comfortable and at ease I feel on a motocross bike but definitely want the streetbike performance and something that I can lean right over. I guess I'll just have to ride it when the snow melts and then make my decision. Basically I was just looking for any input on if my skill set on an offroad bike would transfer over or if I would be starting from scratch. Thanks for the input guys, I will definitley check out the other bikes you mentioned!!

well for what my opinion is worth and some may find it brutal. and i mean no offence this is just my view. i am glad i waited for the evo sp..as the 2009 std bike and s felt very pedestrian in terms of power delivery it was nice , but that was my issue with it it was nice... , (i had just come off a SXV 550 ape race tunned) still the greatest experience on two wheels i have ever had until it blew up
my bike with some simple cheap mods has nearly 100HP at the wheel and 80ftlbs of T , is around 160 kgs..and feels pretty damn good...i ride it mx style leg out on the slow turns , knee on the shrounds thru the fast stuff (i'm not a knee out dude) on the track sure but not for the street, the weight takes a while to get used to but the clearence is mx like
you can back it in a little not like the ape though.it wheelies everywhere on demand..brakes are bonkers once you add some good fluid..they'll make you puke there so good...if your young at heart and want a little more , either buy a new one, or buy an old one that has the race cams / pipes /pod filters , rear sets and that will be ok too i'd rekon
go ride them back to back let me know what you think, and check my posts for a run down on my evo sp experience if you like...there were two dudes at philip island last week on the track with hypers...crazy track for a hyper as its hell fast but they did alright, 1 did a vlve though i think...its a long long straight............but boy its mental in the turns!

The riding position, the wide bars, the long travel forks, the neutral feel of the bike, etc. will definitely make you feel at home. That being said, it is a different animal on the street. It's not really the bike you have to worry about, it is all the variable in terms of riding environment that will throw you for a loop. Given some time you will be right at home on the Hyper.
Out!

I ride a CRF450R in the dirt and absolutely love my 2010 SP. I sat on the KTMs but liked the Hyper feel better. First street bike other than a Kawi KLR650 in the 90's and I am really enjoying it. I figured maybe 3000 miles per year. Bought it in July and already have 4500 on it.
I looked at the SF but the air cooled engine really did it for me.

I came off all two-strokes, & only until recently have I gotten Mi first 4-stroke dirtbike. If You want er more lyke a dirt bike, install a slipper clutch & raise the bars two inches higher from stock.
Then there are DP Race Cams, Antigravity battery, higher rearsets and Titanium 2-1 exhaust, only to name a few of significance + other fun mods really make the pre-EVOs come alive. If You're taller, I'd encourage You to go EVO SP. I'm short...

I come from a dirt background and have had a couple of KTM motards and now the Hyper. The motards felt like dirtbikes adapted for the road; the Hyper feels like a road bike adapted to the dirt.

Awesome!! thanks for all the input everyone, now I really cant wait for the snow to be gone. Closest dealer is a 4 hour drive from here and as there is nothing on the market up here for used stuff I will probably be buying new. I'm pretty sure this will be the machine I end up with but the test ride will be the final call. Another thing I was wondering is suspension wise, the roads up here can be pretty nasty first thing in the spring until they patch up all the potholes and stuff ( yes they are all paved lol ). Would rough pavement be soaked up better by the sp suspension or just the standard evo?
