Am I crazy?

I'm not sure if it's been the long crappy winter effecting my brain or what, but lately I've been thinking about trading my Hyper for an 848. Don't get me wrong I still love the Hyper but I find myself longing for the 848. Can't afford both got two kids and a wife in school. I plan on doing some track days in the near future maybe two or three a year. Most of my riding is twisty back roads except when I commute then it's 80 miles round trip 60/40 highway to B-roads. So it seems both bikes are well suited for me. Was just about to offer a trade on the Superbike forum and as I was about to post a pick of my Hyper. As I looked at it I was like what the hell is up with me? Need someone to talk some sense into me please.

I was about to say if an earthquake hits and wrecks the world as we know it, an urban assault vehicle such as the Hyper would indubitably be a better mode of transportation than the 848.

On the other side of the coin, You have a family and going lone wolf isn't an option. If You plan to do more track days... yeh get an 848. If You wanna keep it hooligan-status... aow You know.

Wouldn't do it!

I sold my 749 and went to a hyper. While I loved the 749 it was just too uncomfortable for a commuter, or a bike to spend hours in the saddle. Conversely I spend 13 hours on the hyper and am happy as can be. You can track the hyper and have a good time. I wouldn't consider going back to a superbike.

If you can only have one bike the Hyper wins out for me.

I had a 848 before my Hyper, the rear suspension was shit, put an ohlins du 515 on the back and it was not much better.
The linkage arrangement is all f@#ked up,the ride is very harsh and cannot be tuned out.
If you want more power, get a s4rs.
Much better bike and it will get you round the track more than fast enough!

Thanks for the replies guys you all calmed me down for now. I think I definitely had cabin fever. I've always liked the 1198/848 in my opinion one of the most beautiful superbikes to date. So I was easily seduced by it's beauty.

go to a couple of the big track days and look on the web sites. you often see track bikes for sale cheep. that way when you wreck it the loss isn't so great. when i got my cbr i got a very good deal and got the bike to use as a track bike and consider it disposable. in my opinion thats how you have the most fun on the track. if i had to do it again i would find a R6 that somebody was dumping and use that. i am currently looking for a wrecked one to build for track only. i regularly find them for under $3000 that are scarred but rideable and low mileage. your area seems to produce a lot of them once the weather warms up and the squids are out again.

I was in ur same boat but the other way around. I went from an R1 to a Hyper. Best thing I could of done, although sometimes I miss the power as far as take off and the whole look, the benefits on owning a hyper are more. Comfort, safer, better with a passenger (way better) and hell its a Ducati. I say safer so to speak, safer cause you can reach 100mph + in a very shorter time then the Hyper, something to consider especially if having kids. Its true it all depends on you, but having all the power under ur ass is very tempting to use it, very tempting.

Buy yourself a track bike, a salvage one. Right now I have a GSXR 600 2008 for $2400, it probably needs $500 more (max) to make it ridable Honestly speaking I dont see how people afford to take a newer ducati to the track. You crash and you basically have to sell the bike to repair it. Believe me there is no better feeling then having a cheap/crappy bike at the track. I currently own an R6, (actually 2 of them, one also for sale) solely for the track and have the Hyper for the street. Plus once you start hitting the track ur not gonna want to ride in the street so often if not at all, and thats when ur gonna be so happy of owning a Hyper.
And 80 miles is quite a bit on a sports bike.

I can go on an on, on why to keep the Hyper and get a track bike. One example is that if you fall, say on the GSXR and break the clip on its gonna cost you about $30 bucks to buy another one. Your biggest concern on the track is gonna become ur safety and BUYING TIRES, believe me, you DO NOT want to add on "Ducati Parts" to the list.
