Quick Release Seat Lock

One more mod before spring. Hypermotard quick release seat latch using a Dunlop Guitar strap lock

Here's the components. I don't know what the strap buttons are made of, but a carbide bit on a lathe wouldn't touch. Low tech solution bench grinder and a pair on vise grips.

With the strap button ground down to form a lip and the original seat latch drilled out to receive it. A little welding

The lock part fits right on to the seat, and attaches with a circlip almost the same way as the original part

Push the button down and pull up

I need to ride it for a bit, but it works pretty well so far

I already see a couple of improvements. I used a Dunlop because I could get that locally, but Ernie Ball, On Stage, and Hennessey looked interesting.

Very nice. I have never seen that quick release before. It may come in handy for other purposes too.

That is pretty cool. MusiciansFriend has some more pics of the lock for those interested.

Excellent mod! If I knew how to weld, that would be next on my list.

If the seat attached the same as the 2008 it should work.

I was thinking about something like this:

J.W. Winco, Inc. - Flat Knurled Thumb Screws

I don't usually ride with a pillion, so it should work just fine.

You guys remove your seat that often? I've done crazy electrical mods with my lights/tail and i still can't see the requirement for a quick detach.

I just replaced my rusted allen seat screw with a philips head stainless steel one for 50 cents.
