796: Three Days of Fun

Well, after 3 days riding the Hyper796 I can honestly say
I love it better than the 1100.
For me it's so much easier to operate, quick, nimble,
so light;power is so smooth, clutch is magic!
enough raving on..

I got on it Thursday morning, to Grafton Road from Ebor
stopping at Coutts Crossing for fuel,
then turned down Orara Way and into Coffs Harbour.
Started out cloudy and cool, a little drizzle turned into
warm and sunny about 30C as I got nearer the coast.

The Hyper was getting its first service, after which I
took it up the road toward Dorrigo via Ulong,
like a mini-Maquarie Pass through brilliant rainforest.

Day three saw a leisurly/legal cruise through police infested Highway One,
turning off before Port Maquarie to Wauchope via Pembroke, a lovely backroad
with varying degrees of shocking road surface, but a great ride.

Then up the Oxley Highway where I wiped out the
remaining surface'of the back tyre with great joy.
My normal cruising ride soon changed to a little more brisk pace,
with only 2 cars in front the whole way I had quite a fun time

Stopping at Gingers Creek Cafe, cake, cuppucino and cig with some
chat with Mark our local Ambulance driver preparing to meet
a helicopter with a trail bike-leg break from inside the forest; poor guy.

Off I went on my last leg of the journey back home, 85 or so km, winding
road with long straights at the end, not a car in sight.

It's so nice living up here in the middle of rider's heaven and so
glad I got the new Hyper.

Thanks for sharing Pete. Looks like you live in a beautiful place, great pics.
It's cool to hear a comparison from someone who has owned both bikes.
Good luck with the new bike and enjoy .

Sounds like you owned an 1100.

Yeah, I did enjoy an 1100, both Multistrada S & Hyper.

both magic rides... I'll probably miss certain things in both bikes, but what I'm finding in the 796 as its loosening up is becomingmore and more seriously good fun!

you don't miss the torque? I love my crf but it just doesn't do it for me when I need some power adrenaline

there's still plenty of torque happening in the little baby, think it's down 25-27ft/lbs on the 1100, the only time i really notice it is occasionally when i screw it on in 5th/6th the 1100 would lunge and go, the 796 moves but would rather like a change down for the same reaction...not like a harley to a vespa change...cruises nicer at legal+ a bit speeds, still seems to like 140-170kmh on some sections....i'm getting older/wiser now (one of them is a lie) so getting done for (big)speeding here can mean jail time...no thanks...
here's one from sunday last...autumn (fall) started today, only 30C boo hoo..

"It's more fun to ride a slow bike fast, than to ride a fast bike slow."...or something like that.

Well said... not that the 796 is 'slow' either.

Thanks for the report.

No, I'm sure it's not...but this is coming from somebody with a huge respect for "lightweight" bikes, even though I ride a pig now.

Great ride report, and you've put the 796 on my radar.
