Hyper non S to S fork swap, worth the cost?

Would it be worth around $1000 to swap?
Would the cartridge kit be a better option?

I have been told several times that the S and Non-S forks are the same inside, with the only difference being the external coating on the S forks... Both require a cartridge upgrade for any real functionality improvement.

The rear is totally different, but the forks are near identical (at least thats how I understand it, and I would be happy to be wrong )

No
and
Yes.

Don't waste your money on the black DLC, you will never feel the difference. Buy a cartridge kit.

I have both set, the one that came with my standard '08 and won an auction on ebay for a straight 08 S fork. I won it at $600 IIRC

Bought ig for 2 reasons :
1/ Bling. I like the DLC treatment and the goldish coating.
2/ I always planned to put cartridges in them, to keep my stock non-S fork in its stock form, in case of a resale of the bike

I can confirm you, the inside in both forks are identical. Same crap.

If you want an upgrade, just get yourself some 25mm cartridges. I just received a kit from GP Suspension, excellent quality.
If you want an upgrade AND bling, get an S fork or the 46mm Ohlins.

$1000 for DLC??

Given that the internals are the same you'd be paying a lot of cash just for the DLC. Only you can decide if it's worth it but I'd say it was a complete waste of money.

Much better spent on a cartridge kit and with the forks apart you could get the externals reanodized and/or recoated at the same time .

I can recommend the Maxton kit, as fitted on my 1100s last year. Had the forks re-anodized in a titanium colour to match the calipers at the same time (can't abide the pale gold).

Normally not much use to you guys on the other side of the pond given that Maxton wont export to the US but check out Doon's ad in the classifieds - can't believe that this hasn't been snapped up already (no connection other than purchasing his PCV)

My only issue with the Maxton kit is that they shorten the travel a bit.

Maybe it's not an issue at all, but I just can't get my head around it.

I'm wondering why Maxton would make a fork kit with less travel, as the Hyper needs all the ground clearance it can get, hence the EVO-SP.
Does anyone know how much travel you lose? Aloha Alex

Cartridge kit is definitely the way to go...I bought the Ohlins 25mm kit for Ducshop...amazing change in handling.

as far as paying for the coating for bling... racetech and I believe traxxion will put a coating on for you as part of their service. A coating that actually has been proven to provide a performance benefit.
