Rear preload\Sag 2010 SP

All;
I have been reading the suspension threads on this forum and started setting mine up today. I have a question on preload. I weigh about 200lbs. With the rear wheel off the ground (bike supported with jack stands at the swingarm pivot) I have a measurement of 530mm from a point on the CF side panel to a fixed point on the axle.

With me on it the average length between the same points is 486mm for a SAG of 44mm. The free sag is 15mm. I cranked in about 4 turns of the preload collar to get to this point. From the end of the threads to the top of the lock collar I have approximately 19mm showing.

From what I have read here the free sag should be 5-10mm and the sag should be approximately 30mm. It seems that if I cranked in enough preload to get to 30mm sag I would be topped out.

Does the hyper need a heavier spring for a 200lb rider?
Michael

Hey Michael, I seem to be in the same boat as yourself.
Did you end up finding out a solution?

Good question. About 195 and with a loaded backpack today I swear felt like the ass of the bike was squatting too much today under some conditions.

No, I have to admit that those settings are working pretty well after I went to 5wt fork oil. I do plan to get .8kg springs for the front and then revisit the rear

For my skill level (slooow) I'm pretty right happy now.
Michael

most rear shock springs are rated for a 165 to 185lbs guy ,so imo one rate higher would work better for you.

now for the 796,its spring in the rear is softer then the 1100 rear spring as i have both shocks. i weigh 185 with gear and the stock 796 spring was to soft to set the sag just right,once i replaced it with the shock from a 1100 it was perfect.796 owners dont forget to do this mod you will need to move your O2 sensor cause it will hit the reservoir of the new shock.
