Gas tank/Fuel Cell Removal: Questions
So, I have almost everything disconnected on my 2010 Evo Sp but the fuel lines. Is there any reason why you can't disconnect the lines and remove the tank when it's full? If you disconnect the lines, will gas drain from the tank? I ask because the Ducati service manual recommends draining the tank first but they don't say how.
Thanks for your input.

California Cycle has a video on how to drain the tank using the fuel pump to empty it out. I do not like having fuel in a tank that is disconnected since it may not sit correctly and once it's off, you gotta put it down somewhere.
1:40 into the video...

I removed mine with a completely full tank no bother at all.
Some over the older bikes had pump cover that had stupid bolts that you had to unscrew the whole was just to get to the fuel pipe connectors... This is where you risk leaking fuel, on the newer bikes 2010 onwards the bolts have two threads and just nuts that hold the pump cover on... That probably makes no sense.
Either way I took my tank off full to the brim of fuel when I fitted my cycleworks tank. Just emptied the fuel into a clean bucket once the flanges had been removed.

Thanks for the quick responses, guys. I think I'll suck a few gallons out of the tank just to lighten it some...Almost done with the Termi, air box cover, computer, etc. installation!

I removed mine with nearly a full tank, no problem. why are you removing the tank to put the airbox lid on? You should be able to just prop it up in the air far enough to get clearance. Use a bungee cord or ratchet strap to the rafters of your garage to hold it up far enough. You are making extra work for yourself.

Too late--already a done deal!
BTW, is it me or are the Termi instructions lacking with regard to what old and new hardware to use as well as the blurred pics? No matter I got it all figured out over the course of the day.

instructions didn't come with mine. The damn exhaust took me 8 hours to install without them!

The instructions are crap. They don't say which screws and nuts to use from the kit never mind when to use OEM parts. Similarly, the pictures are so bad that they could be anything. My hunch is that once you've done one Termi system, the ones that follow will be relatively straightforward except for connecting the mid-pipe!
