Airbox tech. question.

I have a 2010 1100 evo sp and wanted to know if I make the small airbox mod (cutting holes) will the o2 sensors compensate for the air flow increase, or will I have to get it remapped? Or is it not a big enough increase to warrant any changes in the fuel mapping?

Thank you.

mate my understanding is that with the 2 sensors constantly adjuting it will be fine with that small mod..but i'd say anthony at desmo-works would be an accurate source for you, maybe give them a 2 min call

I'd also like to know the answer. I'm thinking of buying the DP air box cover for my 796, but I don't plan on remaping my ECU right away.

I asked Anthony about the MWR air box cover. Granted, it flows more than the air box mod.

Here is Anthony's response:
"I don't think anyone has installed one with the stock exhaust on. The stock exhaust is very restrictive so you definitely won't get the overall gains you would if you had a full system installed as well. I'd say if you want to keep the exhaust stock keep the intake stock as well..."

You can open up the stock airbox and even install a performance filter like (K&N, BMC, DNA) as long as your keep the exhaust stock, & the stock ECU will work fine. You can also install a CAT eliminator which will give you better throttle responce and a better exhaust note.
These two mods are the most you can do to a stock bike with stock ECU, and will give you the "BIGGEST BANG FOR THE BUCK" you will gain from 4 to 6HP. Aloha Alex

PS: this goes for the 08-09 bikes, not sure about 10s & up, but I'm not sure why it would not work the same.
