Question Views on hypermotard evo sp

I've decided to get the hypermotard evo sp about this March until I saw and sat on the super tenere. Immediately I fell in love with the bike. All this while I've been wanting to get an adventure bike, particularly the R1200GS ADV ever since years ago. The only thing which has been stopping me is the price. So here's the situation, I felt that hypermotard would be more practical for me as a daily commuting and for some weekend trackday. As for the tenere, I like how the bike perform (base on the review and some research) and the feel when im sitting on it but I doubt that I could make full use of the bike potential like off-road or touring as im tied up with work. So now I would appreciate if you guys could give me your opinion and thoughts. Maybe also the review of the hypermotard evo sp, maintainance and fuel consumption? Thanks in advance.

P.S Im sorry if im putting up other brand or type of bike here. But I really need some advice from you guys here.

I just signed for an new Evo-Sp and have read the hole web about it. All reviews i found + some input from fellow bikers and all say the same if you want to have FUN Hym is the way to go if you like driving at one wheel and do some trackdays kind of driving ..Hooligans bike .

The other bike you consider are very heavy and big in comparsion , personally i hate big and heavy bikes .

But if you gonna cruise/tour and just do lots of miles thoose other bikes maigh be for you .

Just my opinion

People must be busy as they haven't jumped in here yet......

I'm a Yamaha fan. A big, Yamaha fan. For decades, I have really only sought out and bought Yamahas..........until the Hypermotard came out in 2007.

I would go to the Ducati dealer (over an hour away) and with ALL the great bikes in their showroom, I would just stare at/sit on the Hyper.

I'm going to buy another Yamaha R6, for the track mainly, but I refuse to sell the Hyper. I will die owning this bike, it's just that cool.

I like adventure bikes and if I was going to buy anything "tour-ish" it would be an adventure bike. I've done 2000 mile rides up the Cali Coast with R1s with soft luggage on several occasions, but never had as much fun as I have had with this Hyper doing the same thing. If you search this forum, you will see that there are some options nearing that may afford you the chance to put some adventure-type hard bags on your Hyper.

Get the Hyper, buy some soft bags for it, and seek out some of the most entertaining roads that you can find.

You won't be sorry.

Dave

Same here, on my second Hyper an 2010 EVO SP. It's a blast. Go to your local Ducati dealer test ride it and as someone else mentioned a Multistrada 1200. Try getting a test ride at a Yamaha dealer...(old time Yamaha fan from the RD/RZ era)

i agree with all that has been said, the HYM is a super fun motorcycle, and great for around town, the canyons, and track as well. if you're simply going to be commuting (as you say), then the only question i'd have for you is what type of roads will the commute entail? if the commute is a long distance, then you might want to consider the larger aftermarket tank (cycleworks), and if the ride is spent on the freeways, then you might want to consider something like a Multistrada 1100 for such. additionally, the HYM EVO SP stands a bit taller than the non-sp version, and if you have a short inseam (less than 30in), then you'll want to take that into consideration too. i hear you on the wanting an ADV type bike, the image of them is impressionable, and like Smackman said, their size and heft are to be respected.

have fun with the hunt and enjoy the test rides

Thanks guys for the reply. Yah I really thought so that the hyper would be a fun bike to ride. Any what's the maintenance and fuel consumption like? Anyway for the distance im traveling like, its not gonna be far. Im living in a country which you can travel the whole of it in less then hour. Off road? There's none ! Hahaha. I may need to go across the country to do so. I know it really doesn't make sense for me to have an adventure bike but I simply love the size of it. Maybe I'll focus more on the hyper this current moment.

I'm from the Lion City as well, and for commuting ard in our little red dot,the Hyper is the way to go.for petrol i get to about 160-170km before the fuel light comes out.for a small sized tank and my riding like there's no tomorrow style, i'd say the hyper gives pretty good mileage.i've done trips to KL with no problems, only the lack of wind protection is a pain in the neck, literally.

Normal maintenance will cost u less than sgd$200,changing of parts n more detailed work will of course cost more..pls dun compare the maintenace cost of a Ducati to a Jap bike.if u wanna go Italian,u gotta be willing to pay the price.

And if you really do get the hyper, take it to south buona vista and see how well it handles the bends

Hahahaha you mean GAP? I would love to hit that bend hard again.
Dude since we are living from the same island, is it advisable for me to get from the P.I? It's somewhat cheaper. But if it is not advisable I'll get from other shops not the dealer. They have not been nice. They treat me like crap and didn't even approach me for assistance. I've been there couple of time but still did make any purchase, maybe that's the reason why they don't entertain me and maybe also I look like a poor chap. Certainly my sale will not be going to them.
