How to raise the bike for working?

I'm looking to do some work on the bike and need to get a lift/ jack, all the blurb says it should be lifted via the frame but there ain't one at the bottom, is it ok to lift the bike using the bottom of the engine. So I roll the jack/lift under the bike and up up and away or..................

I like to ratchet strap to the rafters, Forks and subframe with a floorjack assist if needed. Depends on the job at hand.

Taking the tires in to get swapped I use a rear stand and straps up front. I have used the jack by itself but don't like to.

All depends on what you are doing to the bike. Front and rear stands work fine unless you're removing the rear swingarm or shock. If you need to get the forks off a under-stem stand works for that.

So what exactly are you doing to the bike?

The first wee job will be to check and set the sag which requires the rear end to be fully extended. The rafter and strap is not an option for my garage as it's fully finished with no rafters exposed.

+1 on Darren's comment... T-Rex Racing makes a Front Stand with Triple Tree adapter specifically for the Hyper. I called and asked since I couldn't distinguish for certain what was what on their website. I am about to take off mi forks & send to Race Tech, so I am utilizing a rear stand as well as said front stand. If You notice there is a sizely hole in line with the steering stem on the bottom triple clamp of the Hyper that the front stand's triple tree adapter penetrates and holds from there. They are good stands, although many may tell You to drop the coin on Pit Bull. They have worked for me and I purchased front & rear for a price I could more easily justify than if I went the Pit Bull route. Plus, they come in Black.

You don't need a stand for this.

Just pull the rear up and take your measurement. it may even stay in the topped out position all by itself. You don't have to have the wheel off of the ground, just topped out on the suspension.

Even if it doesn't stay up by itself, it's best to have another person to help you if you are setting sag correctly anyway.

Brilliant !! this gets me through the first bit.

I'll probably get a jack/stand regardless just in case.
