DP cams, should I???
Good Morning All,
Ok, now that I have the full exhaust (2-1-2) I was sitting around thinking what to do next. I am considering the DP cams and was wanting to get some opinions from those who have them. Do they make a difference? How is rideabiltiy, by that I mean do they give up alot of bottom end?? I have the CA cycleworks tank and their open filters, does everyone think the cams will work ok with my filter set-up?? I also have the light weight flywheel. Any ideas and comments will be appreciated!
Thanks
Heith

I can't answer your question but I do have one for you: How does your 2-1-2 full setup work with the CCW tank? Are you using the ECU that came with the 2-1-2 termis? Cat eliminator, DP headers, or zard headers?
I'm curious b/c i'm think of going a similar route (not the cams though.)
thx

the DP race cams will really smooth out the power delivery, compared to the stock power delivery. the power band will also continue pulling strong all the way to the rev limiter, unlike the stock cams, which sign off a little just past 8k. you give up a tiny bit of low end, but more than make up for it by the top end being much stronger.
so, it depends on what type of riding you do, and what sort of power delivery you are looking for/want. if you do lots of higher speed riding and keep the revs up towards the higher RPMs, the go for the DP race cams.
fwiw, when pierre spec'd the motor for the hypermotard, the DP race cams were supposed to be standard on the bike ... the production engineers decided to pull the race cams and go with the production cams, as they were concerned about warranty issues. that said, i have put over 8k on my bike after installing the DP race cams, and have not had ANY issues.

I spent some time looking at tons of dyno results yesterday from different set ups on different duc powerplants, and across the board cams add a solid 4-7HP (on a SAE dyno so add ~10%) to the top end (6000 rpms up) without loosing much on the bottom end (<1HP). Torque figures were up considerably as well up top without any loss down low. These results were including some tuning time on the dyno to get air/fuel spot on at all points of the rev range.

i would tend to agree with these dyno numbers ... and my seat o' the pants dyno feels the power improvements are even better (more top end pull, smoother delivery throughout the powerband) ... and i place a mugh higher emphasis on seat o' the pants dyno than a real dyno, as i ride my bike on the street, not a dyno

I'm thinking about the DP cams too, but have to wait for the mid size tank to make it up for the loss of tank range.
We have a big table on the french board with everyone tank range. Folks with 2-1 exhaust and DP cams have a range around 65-70 miles per tank...

I am using the ECU that came with the DP headers, runs good but I have not had on the dyno so I can't say about power.
Thank you for all your responses!!! I guess I will be saving up so I can get the cams... Anyone installed their's themselves or dealer only?
Thanks again!

The warrantee is still good with DP cams with dealer install, (Ducati product)
IMHO, I think with the max mods & $$, the air cooled 2V motor can make up to 110 to 115HP max, at the rear wheel, (no turbo, supercharger, or nitrous) My personal goal is 110HP, Aloha Alex
