796 owners, tell me about your bike.
Hi Everybody,
interested in a HM 796 and would like to know what current owners of these bikes have to say about their ride, impressions, pros/cons, etc.
Anyone that has gone from the 1100 to the 796?
Never been a huge fan of the dry clutches and wanted to find out how the wet clutch behaves on a bike like the 796.
Used market is still non existant on this model, so new one is the only option at the moment.
Thanks in advance and ride safe.

I absolutely love mine. I had a cbr f4i before this and the 796 riding position is night and day. The wet clutch is effortless, I use one maybe 2 fingers while riding. I think the brakes are strong. I'm happy with the motor, pulls strong enough for me, even 2-up riding.
Steering is neutral feeling and light. I like the bar end mirrors they have a great field of view behind you. Way better then the elbow checkers I had on my honda. The front fork is soft but the dive is similar to my dirt bike. You get use to it.
The seat is comfortable, though riding 2-up tends to push the driver forward onto the narrower part of the seat. My wife says her ass gets hot from the under seat exhaust when running at highway speed for a while.
I have had two problems with it so far. I had the seat tear up towards the front. Replaced under warranty. The second was a check engine light problem that I fixed myself. I posted about it HERE
There are no helmet locks, but I bought two of these and attached them to the right side sub-frame.
I really enjoy mine. Did I say that yet.

I have a 796 and i absolutely love it. Before this I had owned a couple of r6's, a 748 and a 749. I have ridden the 1100 version many times as well. In my opinion (and i know i am gonna get heat for saying this), bigger engines aren't always better.... yup i said it! I personally like the 796 much better than the 1100 version of this bike.... both are great bikes... but for me the lighter weight plus the wet clutch make this bike very easy to control. It is effortless in the corners, the braking is strong but manageable and the engine winds up faster than hell. No complaints.

Awesome ride!
Hi there,
had my first contact with a Hyper in 2008 whem my neighbour bought one - the design, the radical seating.... In 2010, I rode the "little" 796 at the World Ducati Week in the Misano backlands - fun, fun, fun!! Super-sharp handling, good punch. Back in Germany, I went to my dealer, picked up a 1100 (non "S") for a comparison. For me, the 1100 did not made it. The 796 ist strong enough, fun enough and makes a perfect ride for me. Yes - you do not get radial master brake/clutch cylinders, no fully adjustable suspension and no dry clutch. But to be honest, I am fine with the suspension of the 796 and the slipper clutch works fine!
To sum it up - I went for a 796 in red an I really love it!
Cheers, Marc

Really like my 796 as well, fits me just perfectly, despite the above mentioned non-adjustability.
Get one!, we did

Had my 796 for a year. First Duc and not disapointed. Cant say about the 1100 by experience but knew I did not want a dry clutch (no offense intended)
Clutch pull is very light, linear, and no grab. Did have to break-in though. When new, after sitting a week would bind and stall when first put into gear. Learned to pump lever several times after allowing several minutes warmup. Doesnt do it now. Lowered front sprocket 1 tooth, Installed Arrow manifold, LV cans and DP ECU. Starts and Runs great. Love it.

It’s all about personal preference, if you prefer a V6 over a V8 in a car, you'll love it in a bike. My wife loves the wet clutch on her Duc. Personally, I like the dry clutch on mine, gives it a bit of personality. For me, if I want to ride a refined bike, I'll just ride my Honda.

Well, you know, not just personal preference, it's also a matter of budget.
An SP is 14+ grands..while I just found out that some dealers are already offering 796s in the high 7s low 8s...
You could buy a 796 and a (Honda)...for the cost of an SP..

The 796 has been praised and beaten down over the last year and a half in this forum .... search for 796 in this forum and read on. Mine has been everything I thought it would be ..... I test rode a 1100 and two other ducs before I bought mine ..... If you crave overkill boost and throttle up wheelies in 2nd/3rd the 796 will Not make you happy ..... search and read all the comments and then test ride.
