Starting in Neutral only
For whatever reason, my bike only starts when it's in Neutral. If I have it in gear, and pull in the clutch, it won't start. Anyone have any idea how to fix this problem? Thanks for your help.

It does this with the Kickstand up and down? Or just down?

Check the clutch switch at the bar.

Lol, when I first switched from dirtbikes to streetbikes, I bought a buddy's wrecked R1. I spent 2 months rebuilding it, and thought I would have to tear it all apart again to get it to stay on in gear. Nobody ever tells you to put the kickstand up. Took a few charges of the battery to figure out how dumb I was.

Ain,t life grand???
we won't have to to ask about the frustration shown swearing gettin all uptight and then saying how dumb the bike is or how dumb you/we were when it got sorted out....
Many years ago my brother bought a car (late 60s early 70s CHEVELLE 396) that wouldn't start ,REAL Cheap off a guy who didn't have the little wire hooked up to the battery...
The guy got so frustrated said he would sell it for next to nothing...Brother jumped at the chance paid cash filled the paper work the guy went into the house and in 2 minutes he had er running...
I would call that a prick job...
In hind site seller would have wrecked the car or himself in a matter of time....
I think there is a moral to the story here somewhere....
Good luck...

I also rebuilt a bike (02 TLR). I installed the tip over sensor upside down. The bike would have crazy intermitten stalling that took me way too long, caused too many gray hairs, and stressed away too many years of my life. I don't know if I felt dumb or happy that the saga was over.

I'm having the same 'in neutral only' issue with the stand up. Anyone have a suggestion? I know the clutch switch is in place but don't know what/how to test for problems. Any thoughts?

The neutral indicator lug is on the back of the motor toward the right side, near the rear master cyclinder. It is just a wire that slides onto what appears to be a screw thread that sticks out of the back of the motor. The connection for this wire is behind the frame spare about halfway to the steering head. Just trace the wire back and you should find it.
This info may not be 100% correct, but it may be close if nothing else. It is basically taken off of a 2002 Monster 620ie as I had to install a jumper to allow the bike to be started in neutral with the stand down.

I simply ground my stand switch off on a bumpy section of road. A friend then bridged the wires and now all is good!
